Would you guys really want Wilshire instead of Cabaye? He's more expensive and really overrated. I don't know how big a manager I am, but I would never field Wilshire instead of Cabaye. The Frenchman is more hard working, faster and recovers more in my opinion. His passing is at least just as good as Wilshire's. Jack has beefed up over the years. The fact that he hasn;t played much because of injuries makes him pretty slow to this day. He can't really run for more than 10 yards. Him beefeing up has caused his legs to seem shorter and that makes hi slower than usually. Yes, he is positively agressive in his play, but that doesn't matter as long as he can;t keep upwith the opponents. And there have been massive holse in Arsenal's midfield this season with him, Xhaka and Ozil in the centre, none very fast. And we have seen what Wilshire can (or rather can;t) do in a mid-table team. He went to Bournemouth and played half the season behind the striker and the other half as central midfielder. He had few if any goals or assists. Cabaye has proven himself more reliable for a mid-table team, especially in Newcastle, but also with Palace. Yes, Wilshire scores some goals in the Arsenal shirt, but he wouldn;t be the same player in a mid-table team.

Cabaye is in his twilight years. Wilshire has been getting more minutes on the field over the last few seasons. Those are factors in the decision making, not expecting a central midfielder to play the same well into his thirties.

I honestly cannot see why people would have Cabaye ahead of Wilshere?! We could never have or afford both but I know who I'd prefer. If Cabaye turns us down to move back to France, it'll be a shame but upwards of around £80k per week saved (reportedly). Yohan is 32 years of age and only has about 60 - 70 minutes in him. I understand Wilshere has a bad injury record, but he is, IMO, a much better player than Cabaye. Wilshere is only 26 and is one of England's best centre midfielder's (when fit, yes) and potentially going on a free transfer. I can understand the fees suggested over a 3 year deal but what ready made player is available to a team like us with his qualities? None. 16/7 & 17/18 Season Appearance Totals: Wilshere appearances 16/17 & 17/18 = 49no. Cabaye appearances 16/17 & 17/18 = 60no. Can some of us please take off our red and blue tinted glasses and see the bigger picture? This is probably a dead rumour made up on twitter by that Polish guy, but I can dream.

Maybe the problem wasn't all Wilshire's.

I think Matteo is saying that she helped Arsenal to finish in its worst position for 20 years, which seems like a fair point. But speed isn’t everything, especially when you have Townsend and Zaha buzzing around. I felt that our distribution was lacking last year, having Sakho and Wilshere in the spine could work well. Not sure about the money though. He won’t be cheap.

Cabaye is past his best, next season if he stays I think you will only see cameo appearances from the bench. He hasn’t got more than 60 mins in him anymore.
