For a start that was when he was West Brom manager, following a win against Bolton, and my view is that Hodgson makes a bit of a fool of himself. Ivan Gaskell wants to ask him about the refereeing decisions, but without leading the interview, hence the general question. There was no justification for that intemperate response. Roy's come close to this type of behaviour in a couple of interviews since he's been with us. Being able to deal with questions from the media politely and calmly is part of his job, but if with age he's turning into an irascible old git, perhaps someone else from the management team should do the post-match interviews. He was a bit spiky in that interview to put it mildly, but it shows that these people aren't who we imagine them to be. Roy comes across as a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan who enjoys Bernard Cornwall novels, but he's got an edge, and I don't think anyone on the end of one of his b*ll*ckings would be too tempted to grin patronisingly at him. Or maybe they would... when some people lose it, like Warnock, people freeze and flinch, when I lose my rag I generally get a pat on the shoulder and the offer of a glass of water. Well done Roy boy!

Glad to see that ending to the post. As the thread's title suggests, it isn't always the case that people fit so neatly into boxes and with Roy I'd feel more secure knowing we had a paternal and well experienced manager of the players but with that, someone who's not afraid to show his teeth when necessary. Less 'old duffer' and more 'duff you up sonny Jim'!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

He did himself, and us, a bunch of favours with his hard man tactics yesterday. Shows his passion and outright determination not to be messed about with. Nice one Roy. I can hear Denny W chuckling "upstairs" from here.
