Of those I've seen (so from 1988 onwards) Wright and Zaha are out on their own. Zaha probably now the no1, but not by much. After that take your pick from Bright, Johnson, Martyn, Thomas and Jedinak. The next level is Southgate, Coleman, Shaw, Hughes. Probably missed someone really important out. Edited by TheBigToePunt (20 Apr 2018 8.01pm)

Remember watching Ken Sansom as a kid and he was outstanding but in terms of his contribution to Palace's history you'd argue his contribution wasn't that great. 2nd Division champion but left after one season in the first for Arsenal. Might want to consider that Vince Hilaire and Jim Cannon were greater talismen and influence in those years. Ian Wright plucked out of non league helped propel a previously struggling Palace team to the top flight with massive goals in the play offs. Broke his leg (I think twice) in the first season we were up and the team did OK without him including getting to the cup final where he starred as a sub. 1990-91 we finished 3rd with help of his goals but he left under a bit of a cloud beginning of 1991-92 amid stories of him behaving like a tool in order to force a move. Badge kissing incident 1992-93 when we were relegated. Wilf needs no explanation and some parallels with Wright's Palace career but IMO his individual contribution to survival years in the Championship, promotion and the most successful spell in the clubs history makes him the greatest. Also a wizard with the ball like no other and to all intents a local / academy kid.

Was only about 10/11 when we had Lombardo but remember thinking how incredible he was even then. Him and Wilf of the players that I've seen. Also had a massive soft spot for Matt Jansen despite the brief time he spent with us, thought he was absolutely class.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Whats it like in Whitstable these days?

Whitstable is very nice these days thanks, infinitely better when drenched in sunshine of course. Can't beat a few beers on the beach by the Neptune pub!

I know the Neptune. Lived on island wall for a few years back in 2000-4. Is the Ship Centurion still going? Used to be run by a german guy Armin. Great pub. Great town.
