'Perfidious Albion' how the UK can do that, for what reason, to starving people in Yemen is beyond belief. And they are desperate to bomb Syria for the same thing, at least Syrians eat. Other countries are available. Perhaps you can move out and spread your fashionable hatred for all things western in another country.....I bet they can't wait. Assad is an animal who preys on his own people. He's apart of a family dictatorship and is determined to continue it. For this result he's allowed himself to be a puppet of Iran and Russia to achieve those ends. However Assad isn't a Islamic fundamentalist and unfortunately.....after the west abandoned the early Syrian resistance the only large forces opposing Assad (excepting the Kurds who are secular Muslims) are IS extremists or similar groups....there are some lesser Muslim brotherhood type groups as well but basically they all want to rule with a form of Sharia. Also, unless we went full out war with all three Russia, Syria and Iran we have no way of deposing Assad. We could attempt to 'target' him but it's going to difficult and what comes after him? The best chance was early intervention when a large proportion of the Syrian army had rebelled and the extremists weren't at the fore front of the resistence. But the left voted that down in the House of Commons and Obama bottled it.....Obama made some of the worst foreign policy decisions of any president in living memory. So I think the best case is an Assad in the south and the Kurds in the north.....fcuk Turkey.....Turkey have been playing a duplicitous game. Of course I don't support the political dig in this post, but the rest of it is pretty spot on, especially ref. Turkey. Evidence to contradict the war hawks' narrative on events in Douma is mounting up. Also, the failure of an absolutely lethal "weapons grade" nerve agent to actually kill anyone in Salisbury can't be ignored. WTF are our government doing? How much are Saudi and Netanyahu offering for all this?
Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune) |

A very interesting video of an independent Canadian journalist, talking about Syria at the United Nations. She talks about, amongst other things, the White Helmets, which she claims have been funded to the tune of $100m by the UK and US (2016). This is the group that Russia have claimed they have irrefutable evidence that between the 3rd and the 6th of this month, we (the UK) were pressuring to use chemical weapons. Would be interesting to see the evidence, if they really do have it. Edited by Rubin (14 Apr 2018 8.42am)

How much are Saudi and Netanyahu offering for all this? I don't see any evidence for what happened from either side. The UN hasn't been allowed to visit the site. I see western governments saying trust us and I see layman commentators saying don't trust them. One thing I do know for certain is that Putin is leading a mafia state and Assad will do anything to win. So my position in respect of the chemical attack in Syria is that certainty isn't possible but that it's likely to be Assad. My position on the chemical attack in the UK is that it is almost definitely Russian. That's what our intelligence service think and the motivations are obvious to see.....It fits right in with what's been going on in and outside Russia since Putin took over. Let's get one thing clear, the air strikes this week were an illegal act Any intervention or air strikes should be NATO led with UN resolution

In actual fact the air strikes met international laws for military action on humanitarian grounds and they were launched to avert a "humanitarian catastrophe".

Russia sits on the security council and has been bombing in Syria for years. Trump blows up some empty airfields in a big virtue signalling display and you want to refer to legality?

An extra layer of accountability as suggested by Corbyn, badly needed to curtail the PMs powers.

More absurd stuff. A PM is elected by a party and which is elected by a nation....or the this current case it was electing the single biggest party. Who is electing this the extra layer of accountability? What about an extra layer of accountability for this extra layer of accountability?

Again, answer the question. Who are this extra layer of power accountable to? Are you going to call for another layer of accountability on top of them when you don't like their decisions as well?
