Intent must surely be taken into account - if he's accidentally dropped a rasher of bacon, no charge (except maybe littering), but to go out of his way to offend people, surely that's at least likely to cause disorder? There's no law against having a dump, but if you do it on my doorstep, I'm likely to get quite upset! I understand his intention all too well but religion is the root cause of the offence taken. Religious sensibilities cannot dictate sentencing. Where would it all end?

Offence is a less important aspect to me. It's the physical interaction with the building that I consider worthy of some consequence. People have a right to gather and waffle in peace without feeling threatened. If you want to turn up and shout at them....well ok, but as soon as something physical happens that's the line crossed. Or should be.....This aspect of our culture has turned into something I no longer respect. This man should not have gone to prison. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Apr 2018 7.31pm)

However if you have a criminal record you have to accept there’s a chance you’ll be treated more harshly if you do this sort of thing.

Edited by Cucking Funt (08 Apr 2018 9.46pm) cucking...by lesson, i meant the lesson he should have learnt about not breaking the law after his previous time in HMP. im not sticking up for any religion in particlar but surely no sane person goes & rubs bacon on a mosque, much like you wouldnt draw a swatica on a synagog. everybody is entitled to a view, when when you act on that view with actions that cause others offence then thats crossing the line.

Wow comparing bacon to a swastika. One an animal Jews and Muslims don't eat because their God says its a filthy. Lucky pig. The other a symbol used for a racist regime to kill, terrorize, Jews Slavs etc..

I think a better comparison would have been doing what he did to a synagogue and yes, I think with his previous the result would have been the same. And he would have been suspended from the Labour Party.

This was a non violent offence and did not deserve prison anyway. Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Apr 2018 11.21am)

I think a better comparison would be this scenario: Two criminals with previous are given paint to spray on a neutral wall in the middle of nowhere, observed from behind a bush by the local constabulary. One sprays a swastika, the other peppa pig. Who should the plod nick? Note: grsfitti is permitted on this wall.

Hitler’s Nazi party nicked it for a while but they don’t exist any longer, but it still remains a Hindu peace sign.

Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Apr 2018 11.21am) I don't think anyone should be sent down for a minor offence but this bloke seemingly had previous. (just looked it up and) His wife and one other both got suspended sentences but he had previous for football hooliganism which always counts against people. No one should be at risk of being murdered in prison but we wont spend money on enough well trained staff. We don't know if he was murdered and if he was if it was anything to do with being anti Muslim.

We don't know if he was murdered and if he was if it was anything to do with being anti Muslim. You’re asking for trouble doing what he did though. Everyone knows that Muslim gangs are rife in prisons throughout the country. If you went disrespecting one of the many gangs that run the prisons around the US then you’d be doing so knowing that your life is in grave danger. Was a bit of a stupid move by the bloke. No sympathy from me on the matter.
