I don't believe the problem lies with the police but with the politicians. Pretty much all parties have politicians who are guilty of playing the race card. The same politician who blames the police for targeting and harnessing certain groups then complains when someone is killed that the police don't care. The same politicians who complain about lack of investment in their area and that no ones cares then complain about gentrification (making the place better). Can you blame the cops? Your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. The police need the support not just of the public but the politicians who continually undermine them. The police are not perfect and will make mistakes but we all know the knee jerk politicians who put the boot in before the facts are even known. I don't envy the police who do a difficult and dangerous job. The other night in Weatherpoons Lewisham a WPC was punched in the face by a drunk customer. Not, racist, not life threatening, not worthy of the front page of the tabloids just another day in the life of the cops. Time for the politicians to "man up" if they wont then we the electorate are guilty of voting them into power. You get the police you deserve.

On the whole, we have a great police force. Wish we could say the same about our politicians

Down here it is white people who do the majority of the dealing and other crimes. In parts of London I'd imagine it's black people, Asian people, eastern Europeans etc. If you were to be stopped and searched down here chances are it'd be a white person. Brixton a black person, Southall an Asian person. I don't think stop and search is racist as such but the people it happens to are reflective of the make up of the area.

A ex police officer said stop n search is usually when they have info... street robberies are contact crimes.... i.e. the victim will be able to give police a description of a suspect... if you're looking for the jolly green giant, you don't stop the seven dwarfs. If there has been reports of drug dealing in a certain area, they will have descriptions of the suspects. I bet it is less politically toxic to carry out stop n search of white males in Wales, than it is black males in Hackney/Tottenham.

He also said snitching is rife.... don't believe the movies where bad guys keep their mouths shut... they sing like canaries... also one gang will snitch on other gangs... I mean names/addresses/known associates. He said the 2 groups who won't snitch in his experience is the Tamil's and Gypsies

Policies on policing should be based on statistics and what is effective. Putting barriers up to stop and search like May did as home secretary is simply dim....pure political expediency. All those that cry racism in racial areas are partly responsible for creating a culture that has led to increased death and violence and other crimes. Political and ideological interference in policing is always a negative. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Apr 2018 8.27pm)

I honestly don't know about crime in California but I wouldn't stop at dope. I don't think race should come into it. If someone is here as a guest and they commit a serious crime then they should be deported unless there is a very good reason not to.

[Link] probably closer the the cause of all this madness, than a lot of what is being spouted by politicians. Stop and searched, increased policing etc doesn't get near to the cause of the problem

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. |

Interesting article. How has a life become so cheap to these youngsters. Some of them or their parent(s) are from countries where life is cheap. Reading that I think the solution is twofold. 1. Despite what they say, stop and search on those looking like gang members and dawn raids on members they're aware of. We know they are aware of them. Remember the Somalian Croydon gang who beat up the HOL member's son in the macdonalds next to Waitrose? The police knew who they were but do nothing. 2. Other more nurturing type programs. The immediate problem needs addressing and the ideology of being in conflict with people from yards away needs changing but that will take time and murders will keep happening for a while if the immediate problem isn't tackled as well.

I swear this correlates with them giving free London wide travel to under 18s.
