I knew it would be you.

Insulting ? words fail me.

I think it's important to understand the uses to which humour is put. It is regularly used as a disguise for venal attacks. The Brits are well know across Europe for doing this and being inscrutible, or even two-faced.

We should not defend each and every insult or lack of empathy by saying it's OK because it's humour.

I completely disagree.

You should not second guess intent.....You obviously support 'perception'.

Hmm, define 'humour'.

Of course intent is important.

Nice to know because Dankula was convicted with the Judge and prosecution saying that intent was irrelevant.

It is a 'bad thing' if you intend to cause harm but don't succeed

It is also a 'bad thing' if you don't intend to cause harm but do so due to your lack of thought, provided a little thought would have established the potential for harm

Just like in elf an safetee innit.

We now seem to be talking about two separate things as we were originally talking about the dog and now it's whether or not we should allow rather insulting comments about Jewish people on this forum.

My personal take on the latter is that we shouldn't allow any comments from someone that they wouldn't make to a group of people in the pub that they didn't know.

Unless they're a stand up comedian telling a joke?

Talk about PC gone mad...if anyone says something that another takes offence to on here...it really is for them to challenge it; not you Midlands.

I appreciate the sentiment behind your view, but as with any society its for the crowd to self regulate...not someone who 'seems to recall' when something may be deemed offensive.

You do a good job as a mod on here...please don't ruin it by overstepping and stifling content based on your own ideals...

I ran the moderating team on a forum about twenty times the size of this one for many years and I still moderate elsewhere but I have never encountered so many difficulties as I do here.

In the four months since I have been helping out I have accumulated 111 reported post notifications and most are complaining about posts that they feel overstep the mark.

It seems that it's a case of damned if I do and damned if I don't

I doubt if moderation is based on the singular personal view of anyone. I imagine that the moderator role involves making some decisions about what might or might not be considered moderate for such a forum. How would you suggest that this forum crowd will self-regulate without the intervention of a moderator?

Not sure the dog is going to suffer too badly from this.

Wouldn't be that surprised to hear it'd been sent for a Diversity Education course.

If there's a single comedian that isn't, then it's pretty shameful stuff to be fair.

Out of interest, have the reported posts tended to be insults towards other posters, or opinions on the topic of the thread?

I'd like to know what the other sites you moderate are. I would bet that they're relatively non confrontational, ie gardeners corner or a postage stamp collectors forum. This is a football fans forum where by the nature of football fans banter prevails.

Thanks Lyons for saying that as a Jewish bloke you weren't offended by my post, because no offence was intended. Any reasonable person could have deduced that and seen it as the harmless joke it was.

Moderating shouldn't be based on someone's personal opinion, and football sites are bound to be more near the knuckle than mums.net
