Why not as almost every club including ourselves have signed players that are "no good"

Swedish & Portuguese press have said there's aŁ10m option on him and that Benfica tried to get out of the loan at the last minute following an injury to one of their first teamers.

And Roy says there is no fee agreed.

If he was all that then Benfica wouldn't have loaned him out. Not good enough for the Portugese league, i cant see how he'll be good enough the PL frankly.

what, you mean wildly successful with a great counter attacking team that works it's bollocks off? Lovely stuff, if so.

No I mean the unsustainable kick and rush hoofball that has been proven time and time again to be a short term answer that usually causes an undesired after effect that takes years to eradicate. You can take us as a prime example of that. We either start coming away from that style of play or our lifelines run out. In my opinion, if Roy does keep us up, this season is the last we can pull off one of these great escapes. We have to start progressing as a footballing side, whether that's a process that makes for nervous viewing for a few months or not. So far we've done nothing but put off an inevitability.

I was his biggest fan at the time, but returning to Pulis style "launch it to the 2 big men up top" is really the last thing we need right now.

You're a bundle of joy aren't you. There's a big difference between "not being good enough for the Portuguese league" and not quite making the grade for one of the best young teams in Europe. I know many English people find that hard to comprehend because "pwemia league best league in the world init", but there are high quality sides all over Europe that would make many English teams look like Sunday league players.

Benfica currently have out on loan, to name a few;
Talisca
Cristante
Horta
Jovic

All highly regarded young players, and that's only mentioning 4 of them. Adding that to the array of young (and older) talent they have in and around their first team and the definitiveness of your black & white analysis lacks credibility. Whether he's the best player who ever plays for us or is a complete dud, no one can know for certain, but the assertiveness of some people's claims who are adamant he must be useless but also admit they've never seen him play is bizarre. There are actually quite a few good signs on the limited info we have to go on.

Agreed entirely, but it is a useful plan B to have when all else is failing. I think what those expressing an opinion are worried about is that our creative play is going to be massively stifled without Wilf and therefore we need an alternative route to scoring if we can't break down other teams. We will only really know when Roy picks his team and we see how they line up at the weekend.

But Roy's quote did not say we did not have an option nor did he say no fee had been agreed - what he is quoted as saying is that "a longer stay has not yet been discussed".

Quite simply, that could mean we've not decided whether to take any option up & I doubt any such discussion would happen until he's been around a while & we can properly assess him.

Although he may be seen as a bit negative, I do think people need to calm down about a player who's scored one goal for the U23s. He looks like a promising player but I do question why Benfica would be so happy to loan him out straight after buying him.

It was going to take them a while to get him match fit as Malmo's domestic season had been completed some weeks before. Benfica had plenty of midfield options and presumably wouldn't want to chuck someone out of the squad to accommodate him at that time. Although it appears they did try to stop the deal at the last moment when one of their players got injured, so they must rate him.
