Its normal practice not to accept the first bid, but more worrying is that West Brom apparently are interested Given this, please up the offer asap Palace!

If West Brom do get to him before us it wouldn’t surprise me it won’t be the first time one of our ex managers beats us to the signing of a player will it

In light of the article you linked it’s unlikely that we’d get him straight off if we did - they’ll still hold out for more. Everything I’ve seen so far says they want AT LEAST €20m so even if we offered that someone could still offer more.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I expect it's the same case with Sam and Tosun. We aren't the only club or sport to suffer from it, reminds me a lot of when the Formula 1 teams lose an engineer or designer to a rival and with them go all their car secrets.

This is an example of why we end up with players at the end of the window. Lille holding out to see who will be the hightest bidder. Absolutely nothing Palace/Parish can do about that.

And realising last minute our offer is far and that's where the player wants to go... By all accounts we've made a first offer of £16m compared to there £17.8 valuation. Virtually on the money but at the same time sends the message that we won't start paying silly money. Everton bid the supposed £20m asking price for Tosun and then over night his value went up to £30m! That's why you don't offer the asking price first....

We are not in a position to sweat these January deals out. An early deal where we get the player's services for an extra few weeks more than pays for the premium. If we wait until other PL teams start a bidding war, the 20 meuros will seem a steal. This season is not over yet. There are very few points between the bottom ten and as history shows there will be movements up and down the table. If West Brom or another relegation rival get to strengthen their squad more than us, that could be the difference. Buy him (but I won't hold my breath knowing Parish). How do you know £20m offered on day one will seal the deal? That's what Everton thought and now they've agreed to £27.5m. Ridiculous to offer what is wanted day one, becuase on day two you'll be told a bogus Chinese club have offered £10m more... Come on kids wake up... it's a negotiation.. fingers crossed we'll get the target.

I really am talking about Palace's general approach to transfers over the past few years. But I do know that SP has publicly conceded that he likes to leave things until the last minute, and even is this is debatable, the history of the last five seasons isn't. But I agree that not every deal SP walks away from is necessarily a bad move - sometimes they're too greedy and you have to walk away. But Parish's record is what it is.

You seem sure you know he'd be ours for £20m if we offered that... ofcourse we can't sweat it till the last minute, which is why negotiations have already started.
