Brighton razor gangs operated in the 1920s and the Sabinis, one of them, had violent conflict, including use of firearms, with other gangs like the Birmingham Boys, Elephant and Castle Mob, Cortesi brothers, the Yiddishers and the White family.

This was 25 years before Windrush.

There is no doubt that lads had bike chains, flick knives and broken bottles in the old days but also had a sense of right and wrong.
Now you get stabbed to death for looking at someone too long. The weapons are not the issue, it's the owners.

They didn't, they went out with knives, chains and broken bottles to seriously harm or injure people for fun.

Society tends to mythologise the past, after the fact - Like 'they only hurt their own', 'they only targeted other firms' or 'if was fists only'. All of which are unfounded.

These days, on any Friday or Saturday night, there will be people ending up in casualty because they 'looked at someone funny'. Because the truth is, it doesn't work that way.

That kind of person is just looking for excuses to hurt someone, and by bad luck, you're the one they're going to create an excuse to hurt.

Same as its always been.

The 20s were somewhat rife with violent gangs ala the 'Peaky Blinders' TV series. Its not a wildly inaccurate picture of the time.

I find it rather odd that whataboutery is suddenly OK when we are talking about the terrible level of knife crime on our streets today. Anyone would think that protecting the reputation immigrants and their offspring was more important than peoples lives or something.

The Peaky Blinders were nothing but a gang of street thieves for the most part and nothing like the TV portrayal and as far as teddy boy gangs go, I'd rather ask people who were actually there instead of peddlers of revisionism. Depending on which side of the political spectrum you are on there is always an alternate history that can be dragged out.
None of them have any bearing on what is happening right now and why.

Which is exactly what no one is saying, nor has said. No ones saying its ok. That stabbing people is a bit of fun, or that kicking someones head in is acceptable.

What they're saying is that its a problem that's occurred generation on generation, rather than a product of immigration.

For the record, no stabbing people isn't any more acceptable now, than it was 30 years ago. Nor when it was football fans dishing out Chelsea smiles etc.

This is what we have come to.

I hope some of you have your sand ready to bury your heads in.

So glad I moved my family away.

Was that to stop the staff nicking the cutlery?

My point was that historical whataboutery has nothing to do with todays issues or the causes.

Hrolf what is your over-arching, holistic solution to it all? For argument's sake, you're in charge and what you say goes. But it has to be realistically implementable -- and specific.

Significantly increase sentencing for carrying a knife or other potential weapons and street robbery.

Introduce much more rigid criteria for immigrants who wish to live in Britain.

Deport any immigrant who is caught carrying a knife or other weapon.

Reintroduce stop and search.

Stop pretending it isn't a problem and excusing it away because of ethnicity or socio economic factors or because someone once got stabbed in Napoleonic times.

For it to work financially, we would need very cheap and dangerous prisons with a near abandonment of human rights. You good with that?
