Bollocks. Martinez cleaned him out. No, sorry, just watched it back on Sky Plus. He dives and commentators say it looked a penalty but reply’s show it’s a dive. Don’t want to argue about it, just pointing out we’re all as bad as each other. The way to be sure of winning is to do so without hoping for good officials. Because you will probably be disappointed!
Now here's Wright, his first chance to see what he can do, and he's through, it's Wright, ohhhh what an impact by the substitute. And it's Ian Wright who's sent the Palace fans into ecstasy! |

So the punishment has to be a points deduction. Deduct the unearned points plus one. So, Niasse's dive earned them a point they wouldn't have got, so take it away plus one. Same for if it gets you a win over a draw, take away the 2 unearned points plus one. If the differential was bigger than 1 goal - or you lose - still deduct 1 point. Of course, this all assumes that the panel will have any balls whatsoever to actually call a dive a dive, which they won't. The greater the stakes, the more they will shrink from their responsibilities. Shouldn’t just be a case of deducting points from the cheat’s side, they should also be given back to the cheated’s side. Won’t happen though. It would also be nice to be able to have a panel assessing a refs overall performance (not just one mistake) with the option of a red card and subbing them at half time if they’re underperforming. Pigs will fly and hell will freeze over before that though!

It was a dive all day long, but whatever comes out of it, it does not help us now. I hope the ref gets down graded because it was a shocker of a decision and he had a great view of it too... The look on Cabaye's face told the whole story..

The refing in the Premiership is appalling, watched the match tonight Murray was taken out by Shawcross definite pen, Lee Mason another incompetent ref is not even up with play awards a free kick to Stoke as Murray who is flat on the ground has handled the ball.

Murray himself did enough to get red carded in one go in that match. See the Everton match ref thread for a summary of ref cockups in the weekend's ten Premier League matches, three of which were refereed correctly, and in which two out of eight major calls were given correctly. Some people seem to think that's good enough. YMMV.

Although I agree the referee was awful and let everton get away with murder, frpm where I was sitting in upper holmesdale it looked like a penalty.

If you want to stamp out the behaviour, you have need to have an incentive to the club, team and player to avoid cheating. As it stands, if he's banned for even three games, he earned his club 2 points. Most managers would take losing a player for 3 games, in exchange for 2pts. Originally posted by Ray in Houston
It has to be a punishment to the club; one that matters. A fine for the club or player is irrelevant, because they're all stonkingly rich and any fine is comparative loose change. Still, managers will stress the need to earn a penalty by whatever means possible because winning points is all that matters. Unfortuntely, there is such an ambiguity over diving and intent and someone genuinely jumping out of the way to avoid injury (which should still be a foul against the tackler, even if there wasn't contact IMHO) that retrospective punishment such as this will fail it's purpose. It may work as a deterrent, but what is worse? not punishing a dive sufficiently or punishing a club with a points deduction when the player did not dive ? Having said that, when someone comes out after the game and Admits to conning the ref (with or without Video refs) then they should be strung up and fired our of the nearest skyscraper.

When do we find out if Niasse is being referred to the diving panel and what conclusions they have come to

Of course he's already given an interview in which he suggested that a) he did it and b) why the f*** shouldn't he, so hopefully they will make an example of the disgusting cheat. Don't hold your breath though. I don't know if Palace are still interested in the "player" or if he's still interested in us, but if the latter were the case a nice presser to the effect that he and his agent are both now as welcome at Selhurst Park as an epidemic of Gandhi's Revenge in a submarine with blocked toilets would be quite amusing.

Good !! Cheating little get has been done , so really now the penalty should be stricken from the record hence us being awarded all three points ....... of course it won’t happen but it bloody well should !
