That's a completely meaningless stat, if you look at the goals to games ratio of that lot compared to Benteke then he comes out pretty much on top. Screw goals to games. GOALS TO MINUTES PLAYED is what's important. Ok, over 2 matches it's not relevant, but over the course of entire seasons it is. And Benteke is far behind the other strikers in the PL

Once?

It's like Chicharito and Welbeck in Manchester United. Now everyone there laments they were tossed aside, which proved a tragedy in United's years that followed.

Whatever your views of Bentenke, we have missed having a focal point for our attacks and although Zaha and Townsend have done well in the circumstances both drifted off to the wings leaving no one in the middle. Personally I'm generally a big fan of Bentenke (there have been a few games where he's irked me). He does a lot more than just score. He wins most balls in the air and has some skill on the deck. He does seem to come alive when Zaha is linking up with him, so hopefully with both in the side we will see a resurgence in his form. I certainly don't think he will want to be outshone by his mates Sakho and Zaha. My only one negative is that sometimes he seems to play like he is a bit too concerned with how he looks, which seems in keeping with the "Stay Up All Night With Bentenke" song

Good to have Tekkers bavk. My only concern for this game is that they have Keane in their ranks who for Burnley at Selhurst last season completely dominated him

It's total goals scored that's the important stat. Goals to minutes played for these players may be greater but it's either down to the fact that they are impact subs or perhaps indicates that they are always injured half a season. Having a striker who scores once every 270 minutes is no good if he's injured 20 games each season. It's 3 goals a season! You can twist statistics to prove what you want. Personally I want a striker who is generally fit, scores goals and brings others into play. Played correctly with adequate support Benteke will do that, as he proved consistently at Villa and with us last year. Originally posted by mattteo

Call me old fashioned, but I'm of the belief that you tend to score more goals if you play a striker. So thank fcuk we have one again
Now here's Wright, his first chance to see what he can do, and he's through, it's Wright, ohhhh what an impact by the substitute. And it's Ian Wright who's sent the Palace fans into ecstasy! |
