So based on this, I wonder why he REALLY left the Palace.???? I am with you it just shows how little we really know of what goes on inside a football club it is quite bemusing to me as he is being touted for almost every job that comes up. Strange retirement and all we can do is speculate as to why he ran out the door so fast.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Big Sam' by Midlands Eagle Pulis and Sam both did well for us and Kept us up for longer than we could have dreamed. We probably never will know why they went but cannot see any point in dissing them for getting on with their careers.

Looks like his retirement didn’t last long .Was obviously bullsh@@t I think we have all experienced or BS our respective employers to get out of something if we don't like what we see. Handing in a resignation just doesn't cut it sometime. I would focus on more the fact that 2 very experienced, suitable managers have quit us, in such shocking circumstances when the prospect of building their own premiership club, in london, with a big fan base would be enough for any manager. To see how the board treated FDB, regardless of his own personality tells you enough - clueless

On the other hand, maybe he REALLY did plan to retire, but when the Everton job became available he just couldn't resist it.

On the other hand, maybe he REALLY did plan to retire, but when the Everton job became available he just couldn't resist it. I don't recall him using the word "Retire". He indicated that club management is 24/7 365 days of the year and he had been a manager for many a year and that he now felt his future was in International management and I could empathise with this. It was only later when he said "At this moment in time" that I felt he could possibly be lured to a club at some stage.Perhaps the Palace job took a lot out of him hence his reasons for his departure and having been rested and away from club football, the urge and inclination to manage a club returned. This post has been merged from a topic called 'Big Sam' by Midlands Eagle He has created a good niche for himself as a keeper-upper, Arrives at troubled club pre-Christmas and is paid handsome salary and. Leaves for a few months in Portugal in May. Back on the scene doing punditry in Sept/Oct Same scenario again for another club in November. Very nice too for the Fat Man while his luck lasts.

Ok at Sunderland and our club he was there a short time and admirably kept both of us up and he does have a reputation as a manager who keeps clubs in the top division. But at W.Ham he was there for some 4 years, at Blackburn a couple of years and of course he spent quite a few years at Bolton,so the scenario you have painted is a tad awry.

I am talking about now not the past. The role was created at Sunderland and at Crystal Palace. Seems simple to understand.
