I'm guessing if the perpetrator had been Muslim that the dialogue wouldn't have been rhetoric about mental illness, and Trump would have been in full on political capitalising.

I don't think it would have made much difference had the shooter been black.

The weird thing though is always that these kind of arguments (mental illness, religion, politics) seem to be more important than the elephant in the room of owning large magazine capacity assault rifles.

Senator Ted Cruz said yesterday, apparently while trying to pivot away from gun control regulation, that "Evil is evil is evil; and will use whatever weapon is available."

Exactly, Ted. Eggs-f***ing-zactly.

So said the current Attorney General for Texas. As always, the right's answer to gun violence is more guns.

Been having a protracted heated discussion with a couple of random Americans on Facebook. One says she always takes a gun to church as this is where many attacks take place. Both are adamant that they need guns to protect themselves against criminals as the only hope for them against criminals with no respect for the law is the fear generated by armed civilians. They both are delighted that the attack was stopped by a civilian firing his own weapon but are blind to the fact that it was caused by a civilian firing his own weapon. There is now a hole in my wall from where i’ve been banging my head and i’ve had to accept that i’ve been completely wasting my time.

Well the first step would be to ban assault rifles and extended clips – as things were prior to 2004. The Texas shooter had fifteen 30-round clips and unloaded the whole lot of them inside that church. Churchgoers had guns with them, but nothing to match the firepower that was brought against them. If we ban assault rifles and extended clips, they6’d have more of a fair fight. Also, with a properly-run, universal background check system, this maniac would not have had access to guns and, if he did get one, we’d know where it came from and who to go after for that.

As to a point of fact, the assault on the church was not stopped by the private citizen engaging the shooter. This only happened as the shooter was leaving the church – damage already done.

But, yes, there are the "cold dead hands" gun die-hards who have drunk the NRA's Kool Aid and will take any adjustment to existing gun laws as an attempt to take every gun from every law abiding citizen and giving them directly to criminals.

Been there, done that, and the rioting etc. didn't happen. 9 black people shot to death in a historic black church in Charleston in 2015. [Link]

So there goes your fake scenario in a puff of gunsmoke.

What was interesting, though, and I'm glad you brought this up, is that the white shooter was allowed to surrender peacefully. Unlike those heinous black criminals caught for selling single cigarettes or having a broken rear light on their car. The Charleston shooter complained of being hungry at the time of his arrest, so the cops took him to Burger King on the way to the station.

Thanks for putting that on a plate for me, Hrolf.

You brought 'race' into it.

And you tried to counter with a hypothetical which was easily debunked by reality. So, again, thanks.

Debunked? I think not. One example doesn't debunk anything, never has.

Nice try.

You literally tried to come up with a straw man argument which had actually occurred in the recent past and none of what you said would happen actually did happen.

Well and truly debunked from where I'm sitting.

And we know that where people are sitting is often from where they are talking.

Introducing 'race' was cheap and deserved an equally trite and blinkered response.

Blame anything but the actual reason. The gun lobby have always been ludicrous, but now it's become a parody of itself!

No, as usual you myopically picked an example that suited you. The instances of riots over perceived injustices is numerous.

The left in America....people like you...humorously a supposed former conservative (yeah right) have advanced the lie that black people are victims and that's created a culture of victimhood. Blaming their societal problems on racism. When groups have succeeded against far higher instances of racism in the world than ever existed in America...the Jews for example.

Simplistically and implicitly being patted on the head by the left to ensure they continue voting for them.....though it leads to nothing but the same.

If there were real racism in America....racism that held people back because they were different...then you wouldn't have racial groups within the Asian community earning the highest of all racial groups. You wouldn't have poor white males being low on the educational ladder because a racist system wouldn't allow it.

There are black people in America who speak out against the narrative that people like you push. Being a minority in a country is always harder for a variety of reasons but your blame culture does far far worst things for the black community than any trigger happy rozzer.

He wasn't 'debunked'. What he said was correct for many circumstances.
