This is great news. Well done to all those involved, not just the medical staff but also the supporters who helped out. Your quick actions have no doubt prevented this from being alot worse. You should all be proud.

I most certainly concur with these sentiments.Well done to all.
Delighted that the outcome wasn't a lot worse and of course I wish Steve a full recovery.

Does anyone actually know his present condition?

If you go a certain number of minutes without oxygen to the brain you're most definitely gone, restarting the heart or not.

My own training from years back.
Once the heart has stopped, CPR is a make-shift until a defib arrives. Defib is the only way to re-start a heart.
And using a defib in the wrong situation can be fatal, but chances are, with modern tech, you are doing the right thing

I disengage, I turn the page.

Not necessarily true but the likelihood of brain damage is very high, if the brain is starved of oxygen for a certain amount of time due to the heart not functioning.

The first thing to do in these situations is to feel depressed and like you've had extremely bad luck. It's only natural.

However, being at the club he loves and no doubt has supported even through the bad times of late looks to have saved his life and whilst I'm not a poetic man, that is sincerely quite beautiful.

Fate played a huge part of course. Away game, international game, 5:30 kick off, moved for TV etc and this would probably have been a different outcome.

But thanks to the excellent medical personal at Selhurst Park, this man will get another chance. He needed to be at Selhurst watching his team at this exact time to of stood a chance.

I wish him all the best on his recovery and I'm sure the next game he attends will be very special!

I think this has been an informative and very helpful thread. I’ve certainly been enlightened.

Thanks to contributors, and best wishes to Steve. Here’s hoping we soon return to winning ways to speed his recovery.

Best wishes to Steve and family and well done to all who did their best for him at Palace. Survival rates for those having cardiac arrests outside of hospital are, I am told, not great. It sounds like quick action by qualified people worked well.

I am really glad and surprised a bit about the real concern and genuine feelings towards this poor chap it certainly shook me up Saturday seeing a fellow supporter in such a bad /and seemingly hopeless state

THERE IS STILL A LOT OF GOOD PEOPLE AROUND WHO GENUINELY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL
