A fullback is only as good as his partner on that side, as a FB you need good ears good speed and a good winger to help and cover, center backs need to talk to you all the time to hold or tackle if your left on your own you get to look like a idiot so is ward as bad maybe not

Ward is just about ok as a FB but as someone has already said there is no premier league club that would buy him as their first choice full back which says it all really.

I seem to recall the quality of his game [as with the other back players] improved with Sakho in the team. I will personally hold fire on judgement until Sakho has regained his rightful place and taken back control of the back. That said, it may be hard to form any judgement over the next few games, especially next week, as the light blue hordes run rampant through our back line.

I don't get the anti Joel Ward brigade. Been a steady and reliable player for us for years and continues to be. Very experienced defender and rarely puts a foot wrong. He's been played out of position often at LB in the past and under FDB at RWB, you can't blame someone for not performing to their best in an unfamiliar position - that's the managers fault for putting him there. TFM is clearly more of a CB than an RB which is why he is playing at CB. I'm sure a recently read that no other outfield player played more minutes than Ward last season in the Premier League- that stat speaks for itself. Ward will continue to play at RB under Hodgson because he's our best player there. All our previous managers have also agreed. There are far bigger problems with our squad than this. Are you on Drugs. What have you been watching for the last 18 months. Hennessy lack of authority in the box, made a major mistake on Saturday. Out Ward has been on the decline for 18 months. continued defensive blunders, does not provide overlaps and on Saturday it was plain to see that Cabaye and Luka did not want to pass to him. Out Schluup was caught out on various occasions on Saturday and the goal came from his inability to defend and tackle. he is not a left back. Out Puncheon. Absolute tosh. and has been for over 18 months. No Premier league goals from center Mid for 18 months which is not acceptable. He cant tackle, and has no vision. How he missed that sitter on Saturday beggars belief. Oh, I know why, he tried to use his left foot when he should have used his right. Out Townsend blows hot and cold but should get better. Dann needs to up his game. Luka should be starting every game. Quality midfielder who will get goals. Bakery Sako, is a waste of space Out. Bruce Lee, Out The last 3 are no better than championship players Reidawald is only 20 but looks promising and will get a regular spot. TIM F-M at Right Back. Either Tomkins or Dann with Sakho. Pape Soaure at LB when fit Wickham should be due back November time. Hopefully Roy would have seen enough to know he has to ring the changes. On Saturday there was no striker on the bench!! After the game tomorrow night the changes should be made.

They were cut to shreds.

Terrible again today sadly. He gets so much of the ball but just doesn't know what to do with it. Well and truly out of his depth.
TFM at RB would give us a bit of pace on that wing and also force opposition sides to defend differently and hopefully free up Benteke and (eventually) Wilf a bit. Ward's a liability not only for his defensive frailty and lack of pace, but also for the fact that he puts so much pressure on our attacking players by freeing up defenders and by being the constant outlet for the ball and doing nothing with it.

I wouldn't hang Ward out to dry.We need to encourage Why not ? He was sh1t and has been for ages. In the 2nd half he found himself in space towards the left touchline as I was looking at it (his right side), with no one within 15 yards of him of the ball, he sent his cross up into the air and it nearly landed in the Holmesdale upper, some 100 yards away from his intended team mates. He is slow, can't head the ball for sh1t, and is constantly getting rinsed by faster more agile opponents. He's not the problem it's our overpaid stars that are not doing the business. He is not solely to blame, but he is in a cast of 5 that need binning if we are to stay up. Hennessey, Ward, Puncheon, B Sakho and Jackie Chan need to fcuk off useless.
Benteke can't do anything if he's constantly having to win balls in the air, only for there to be no one to receive the flick on's that he did get on numerous occasions, other than that he was on scraps.Puncheon is supposed to be the play maker, instead he was given a master class by there Mario Lemina. He was thoroughly out classed and was made to look the busted flush that he is. How he had the cheek to try and gee up the crowd after that turd of a performance is beyond me. Scott Dann was constantly having to bale Ward and Schlupp out, who are joint contenders for the worst performance from a single player I have ever seen at Selhurst, (with Puncheon coming in a close 2nd) Cabaye was clearly a class act on the day, along with RLC and Townsend, the only players that looked like they belonged in the league. Watched on tv and the fans leaving early only one goal down is pathetic. I was at the game at watched 11 players on more money a week than I am in a year, play sub standard football that lacked any energy, pace or dynamism. If I pay to go to the cinema and the films sh1t, I will leave, and not you or anyone else can tell me to do otherwise. Let's get behind the players we might be pleasantly surprised!! The only way we stay up, is if Wilf Sakho stay fit all season long, and we buy someone to make Benteke fight for his place. But for the love of God, Ward has to go. Terrible and not Prem Class, nor is Puncheon, Sakho, Jackie Chan, or Hennessey.

Has anyone else noticed that every time Joel takes a throw in it looks like the first time he's ever done it. Or maybe it's everyone else running away from the ball.
