In our current predicament perhaps it would be foolhardy to thrust untried youth players into the team in the rarefied atmosphere of the PL. If one was in a safe position then there is an argument that youth could be introduced from the bench now and then but at present I am far from convinced that this is the right approach.

Or it could be the perfect time. We haven't exactly been great recently so whoever comes in can do no worse than Benteke. As long as he comes in and is seen working hard, putting pressure on defenders and chasing down lost causes the Palace faithful will cheer him on.

I would suggest it is a bit different, a team like Man Utd introducing a youngster in a game which meant precious little, to introducing such a player in our current predicament. All depends on the quality of the team, circumstances and quality of the player concerned.

Shattered confidence? Ruin their career? This is maybe the chance they have waited for and again, we (and the player) have got NOTHING to lose. Lambert or Cole my a.....

Its a question of a rock and a hard place.. Lambert and Cole have their best years behind them and are not PL matchfit. Sako or Loftus Cheek upfront is what I think I wouls go with with McArthur or Lee coming in as a no 10?

You can also lump in the likes of Kevin Doyle, Andy Johnson and Shola Ameobi. Honourable mentions go to Yaya Sanogo, Patrick Bamford, Loic Remy and Jonathan Benteke. It's amazing a Premier League club with ambitions to reach: "The Next Level" have signed these names in recent seasons. Why bother? I wish I could be party to these decisions so I could sit at the end of the table and when I hear these names simply say: "Nah, nah, nah, nah, rubbish, waste of space," etc..... I think the above names combined for one solitary goal, a deflected Sanogo shot that was heading for the corner flag in an FA Cup tie at Southampton. I'd love to know where that leaves the £ per goal ratio invested in these gentlemen.
You have it spot on. It was more fun back in the Coppell part of the 80s. At least most of the players we signed then we had no idea were rubbish until we saw them. The players you listed were absolute horror signings. Add to that Pardew and his penchant for signing someone already injured (Mutch / Lee etc.) If I didn't take it so,seriously it would be funny.
