Your original posting says “new rule”, so, what is the new rule?, as that article was from 2010?

Most certainly not European.

Is you have to name every player that over the age of 21. They contracted. When we was promoted, we left out grandin and maranage. The rule now means you have to release these players.

That's not the rule. The rule is more like you have to name every player over 21 if you have 25 or less. If you have 26 or more you choose which 25, but it must be 25. No leaving any spaces.

Since the goalkeeper got released after the transfer deadline, I found out that every player over the age of 21 needs to be named in the 25 man squad, including wickham whose injured until Jan. This new rule, seems a strange one. When we got promoted Holloway left out the likes of grandin and marange. This probably explains the lack of investment that until we shift a Sako or chungy we were unable to bring further players in. Maybe this is a good thing in the long term, chairman may think twice before handing players 5 year deals and maybe explains why we released the likes of Ledley and Campbell, who were both just running down their deals. Probably similar scenario with Sako and others. Taking a prem wage with no desire to leave and join a championship club.

What's your thoughts on this new rule, good or bad. This probably recruitment has to be the right player and are we gonna have the same problems next summer ?

I think you're misunderstanding the rule. You dont have to name all players over 21 in your squad. Its up to the team if they do or not however if you wish to add a free agent to your 25man squad then you do have to name all available pros over 21
In this case palace could have named the 24 players without letting Perntreou go however they could not then fill that last squad place with a free agent. By terminating his contract before submitting the squad they are now eligible to sign a free agent outside the window although i still think that its still up to the discretion of the EPL if they are given permisson to do so.

Also as far as I understand it, it is NOT a new rule it is simply because of the FFP regulations.

If you are sailing somewhat close to the wind of FFP it would be hard to justify leaving a 'first team' squad member out of the squad entirely.

For those of you who may not remember last summer, Pardew said Appiah would never play for the club again but was forced to name him as the 24th man in the squad.

I asked the same question at the time, why was he named and this rule was brought up. It has been in place for more than 2 seasons now.

Not true if you have say 25 over age players you register all of them but you can swap so many if you bring in other people.

It may be in players contract they have to be in the 25 man squard which I expect Wickham has in his.

The problem is the Prem has different rules to the other engish leagues it's stupid.

Not true. In January we had 25 players before the window opened. We brought in 4 players. We shipped 2 out on loan and excluded Souare and Wickham from the squad list.

We broke the rules I believe as we released him after the deadline. If we are refused permission it's shows how amateur we really are.

Chelsea released Remy on September 1st.

We didn't break any rules but under PL rules a player has to be a free agent before the window closes to be signed after the window closed.

In the case of Remy he signed for a Spanish side. In Spain the window closed on 1st September.

No he's not. If you have 25 senior players you have to name them all. If you have less than 25 you can leave spaces for free transfers. If you have mors than 25 you pick which ones you want, the others can still play in fa cup and you can switch it around in january. We didn't break any rules letting the keeper go as the 25 hadn't been named. But it does mean he can't be signed by another club as he wasn't a free agent when the transfer window closed....this isn't a new rule. If you don't think this is correct, look up the premiership rule book.

Yep this is correct .

We had 24 registered plus Flamini as a free agent at the start of the season.

in January Papa and Wickham were left out because of justifiable long term injury.

Mutch went to Reading.

Something happened to Appiah.

And we got 4 in.

However, like i said previously it would be practically impossible to leave out a fit over 21 first team player' from the squad. Financially, we couldn't justify that.
