We seem to treat buying needed players like running out of milk: 'Oh, I'll just pop to Sainsbury's'.

Exactly! If you were to go onto pretty much every premier league club's forums right now, those fans who are inclined to moan will be having a field day, while those who are more realistic will probably not. All clubs have tried to improve their squads, very few (not even City or Chelsea) will have got all the players they wanted. SP has done pretty much as well as he could, and the squad is clearly much improved. Yes, we are short in one or two areas, but every squad could be improved if the clubs are prepared to throw money at the problem with no regard for anything else. If you can't see that 3 out of the 4 players that have come in are improvements on what we had (I'll reserve my opinion of Riederwald until he's played around 10 games) then you really are a "glass half empty" person. Not a perfect window by any means, but not a reason to string Parish up by his balls either! Yes - It all comes down to what kind of person you are. I'm sure you'd have found Leicester supporters that were still moaning and thought they knew better when they won the league. But surely even the most negative person must concede the squad is stronger this year? I know we haven't improved areas that we clearly need to but I'm sure the intent was there

Credit for saving the club expired? You what? "Credit for saving the club expired?" was probably the wrong term as the poster should have said that SP can't live on that credit for ever more. Interesting comment you made that you "don't know if SP is good or bad at this job, but I'm sure he does what he thinks is right" as I'm sure that the same could have been said about Mark Goldberg and Simon Jordan and look where that left us.

I'm not referring to a substandard player but I'm concerned about what happens if Benteke is injured or suspended as we have no cover hence the glaring holes in our squad

OK Maine, who? Edited by Dangermouse (01 Sep 2017 10.37am) Not sure what you mean with who? Who could do a better job? How long is a piece of string. Steve Parish could make any number of moves to bring new blood into running the football side of the house. He seems to have done that with Freedman but its the same old story of inept transfer strategies and huge gaps in the squad, which smells like Parish again. This transfer window has been a huge failure especially in the context of having just hired a manager who likes to play possession football and pass it around the park. You seem to be missing the point I made about my nephew. Person A doing what they think is right playing connect 4 - putting the coloured chips into the holes to try to put 4 into a row, and maybe they are good at it and always win. Person B - throwing the pieces around and crying - not a good player of connect 4. At this stage of the game, we need someone who is good at being chairman of our football club. We needed to address pressing needs in the squad by executing a professional and coordinated strategy regarding transfers. Instead of trying to sign Oumar Niasse at midnight and then cocking it up over agent fees. We saved 3 or 4 million quid on waiting this long on Sakho, and all the uncertainty and noise that brought to the other deals, was it really worth it? Parish is getting obsessed about waiting late on deadline day, other clubs around us didnt do that, so why do we do it every time? The managerial appointment and then transfer window was shambolic. Parish himself said "barring disasters" we would sign 3 players yesterday, I guess then you can call it a disaster - and who is responsible for this disaster?
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

You genuinely think all other teams aren't worried about the replacement of one particular player? Of course I'm worried about Benteke being injured but we are Crystal Palace A) no player even near his level will be happy sitting on our bench B) decent strikers don't come cheap, salary included C) they tried to address this but transfers are complex

He saved us, he gave us Burley, he's paid 650k per annum, he's sold a large part of us to the yanks, he's promised us a new stadium, brought back Freedman, appointed FdB, he let Pardew nearly take us to the gallows.....If you dressed him in a toga and stuck a laurel crown on his bonce he looks like Julius Caesar. He is not accountable to anyone. We are his toy.
