That was for being over 3 times the limit after 11am on a Saturday morning "after a night out drinking". Jennifer Dempster, mitigating, said Gallacher drank very rarely,

No excuse, on 250k a week, and he can't afford a taxi? He's on a mere £150k a week now apparently, which is what I based my figures on anyway. Full time driver £30k per annum, and you could probably get one for less up north too.

Why can't she be ordered to pay all of the costs, which must be many £1000s?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

If you can afford it, you should have to pay all of the costs in cases where you plead guilty or there's incontestable evidence. She will have had to pay all of her costs at least. The surcharge is actually called a victim surcharge, of which there wasn't one.

You shouldn't get a reduction in your ban for attending an awareness course. Everyone, everywhere is surely aware that its against the law to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Three times over the limit at 11am, for someone who doesn't drink a lot? I assume she was arrested trying to drive home from the Intensive Care Unit, she'd checked herself out of against the recommendation of the doctor. Most people struggle to hit 3.5 times the legal limit whilst drinking in the pub with friends.

A day of your time pretending to listen and be remorseful in exchange for getting back to the wheel 6 months earlier. You should have to do it and not get a reduction, simply to waste their time and cost them more money. Going 35mph in a 30mph zone, doing a course rather than getting points is fine. Driving at over 3 times the limit, there's no course for that.

A friend of mine many years ago received a 36 month ban but it was reduced to 27 months as he attended the rehabilitation course. The ban is reduced by a quarter if one attends the course.

He blew 110 at the roadside. A car reversed off its driveway and hit him and the police happened to be about 3 vehicles behind at the time. Was no offer of a course. It was a straight 2 1/2 year ban. No fine as he was sacked as he was in a works vehicle at the time so they gave him longer on community service. Around 100hours if memory serves me. He also had to declare it for 5 years, most companies wouldnt even allow him to have a hire car even when the ban was up and the dr10 is STILL on there. Won't come off until next April.

It's not the driving ban that's going to frustrate him. It's the not being able to shoot his glue up naive or fame hungry 20 and 70 somethings that's going to get to him. Better get a spare £10k car for chauffeur to drive him to the willing slvts then.
