If we never sold a player, well that would be similar to seeing 20 to 30 year olds out on the road in cars that you could only afford to buy on large salaries, which they're obviously not on, whilst most others are in cars more in line with what they can afford. But any smart person knows their luxury won't last and they'll have nothing to show for it. Worse if they lose the job that pays the rent on the car.

There is a balance with the Sakho's and Riederwald type of purchases. Parish is correct to be cautious, plus we have 2-5 other positions with issues and the ageing squad, which was a comment to address earlier this summer.

Overall in Parish we're in good hands. Just some things are frustrating. Pardew the main one.

The game has evolved to such a high standard that none of them would even be able to get a game. Sakho came in and made keeping us up against the best strikers in the world look like a walk in the park. Far and away the best centre half ever to pull on a Palace top.

Whilst Evans in his pomp was better than Sakho the rest weren't although they were very good.

Evans - disgracefully - was attacked because he was so good, with George Best performing what in my opinion was a criminal assault on someone destined to be our best ever player.

But I am not bitter...

It's like nobody on here has ever negotiated.

If you are interested in buying something, and it's a negotiation, of course you don't say how interested you are. You tell the seller you have other options, you aren't really that keen etc. etc. And if you can get a third party with a big mouth to do that for you even better.

It may be we don't want Sakho, it may be we are trying to save a few million and have always intended buying Sakho. We shall know in 11 days or so.

That's not negotiating that's playing games, messing people around and will earn you a title of 'timewaster'. Perhaps Parish has been following your advice and that's why we can't get a big signing over the line.

You imagine we never ever sell a player. That would be poor management of the club. Small clubs have to sell to stay punching a bit above their weight. Or you can do what QPR do.

If you don't sell you only have the tv money and no other edge whilst others around you will eventually see you disappear because the good times have run out.

The growth of Spurs has been fuelled by buying cheap and nurturing. They now have a team worth a fortune that will give them the muscle to stay there. Similar happened with Wenger in his early years.

Parish might be concerned this sort of thing might catch up with us. Cabaye has one year left, Sakho at £20-£30 mil with no resale value. Only Benteke as a forward, probably because he cost so much (a case of the Sunderlands there).

Cheers , I see what you are saying , I suppose I am looking at it from a simplistic point of view.

We all want Palace to progress and I think we must stay in the Premier League to do that.

To do that we must be prepared to but some players that may have little resale value if they give us a good chance of staying up.
In this case it would be Sakho . If we paid the £28 million and he was as effective for us as he proved to be last season we could stay up and therefore earn more money next season in the Premier that will make the outlay seem reasonable , especially as the TV money makes anyone with two feet and head worth £15 million.

We have paid out £8 million for Riedewald , who is a total unknown quantity in the premier , and I suppose in the ideal scenario if he turns out to be great and keeps us up that will mean we get the Premier League money again and sell him for 50 mill plus. If he does not perform and we get relegated we can say we only paid 8 million , but we lose the mega bucks.

I suppose the ideal scenario is a balancing act where we are able to get both , one with a possible resale value , and one with proven PL experience that will help us maintain the PL status for a couple more seasons.

Anyway , as I said a simplistic view , what we really need is the German Philosopher / finance expert Bungaloadsawonga as manager.

£10 million upfront and the rest if we reach Europe?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I've argued for a while that football needs another bosman style change where if a player doesn't get into the 25 man squad and is over the age of 21 then he should be available for a free transfer, and the current club should still be forced to honour their contract commitment.

The top clubs are hoarding too many players.

Rather than all this verbal masturbating if we can get back to the subject in hand, according to the Express FdB has claimed that he is definitely interested in Sakho but not at that price.

I still think that this deal is on as Klopp can't have the final say on financial matters surely

The irony of you calling someone out for verbal masturbating....

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Lol, that would be nice.

It would be disappointing if we couldn't manufacture a deal of this nature though.

It's not very often that a player of his calibre actively touts that he wants to come to Crystal Palace.

It would be a deal that suits all parties really.

I have a very lovely bridge you should buy, one careful owner.

I learned the art of negotiation at my father's knee at Billingsgate. I have negotiated with Governments so please don't tell me how to do it.
