So no evidence then. You were there? How old were you then about 9? As for an article in the laughingly names 'Independant' newspaper (that is now merely on-line because it was so f'in boring and biased). The police at Lewisham were attacked by the left contingents of the mobs that chose to confront each other. Just trying to keep a bit of law and order but you cheer on those attacking them.
In office after 1979, the Thatcher Tories petted the police with special treatment saving them from the attacks on the public sector generally. They were exempt from the wide-ranging public expenditure cuts, and from the New Public Management disciplines In the face of a wave of urban riots and industrial

Of course it was. Honesty is not your strong suit is it comrade. It was obviously an exclamation. You could just admit you made a grammatical error.

Yeah, you really weren't there - The police in the 80s and early 90s weren't doing so well in their curbing of far right violence - and had a p8ss poor reputation in regards to race. No one trusted them. Not the Left, not the Right, and most certainly not the Black, Indian and Asian British communities. That is not a justification for violence.

You and the idiot left are simply anti-police. Yet you would be the first to call them when the mobs that you mythologise and praise attack your property. Edited by hedgehog50 (14 Aug 2017 6.08pm)

Why would a policeman flash his Tory Membership card at Selhurst? It doesn't make sense.

I wonder what some of those criticising the actions we took to stop the scum back then would have done if some of their friends had come into school with bruises all over them, their trainers had been stolen, there was spit in their hair and all this because of the colour of their skin? One lad had his fingers broken by the scum. Lots of other things were done as well. Before anyone says they should have reported it to the Police, guess what, they did and f*ck all was done about it. This wasn't a one off in those days, it happened on a regular basis. Their parents notified the police, the school notified the police, the council notified the police...nothing was done. Several times a group of us would accompany our mates home from school and meet the at the bus stops to travel into school, guess what, the cowardly scum never showed when it was more than one person they had to take on. We all knew who was doing this and told the police, nothing was done and then for those same scum to walk through Lewisham as if they owned the place was too much of a provocation. They needed to be taught a lesson. Not much political about our reasons for being there, just the fact that they needed to be taught a lesson that they could not make other peoples lives a misery. I really don't think many people who weren't around then realise just how bad it was for non-white people around Lewisham and the South East.

But all the Croydon MPs and Council were Tories in those days anyway - in the unlikely event of a policeman flashing a Tory membership card at a Croydon crowd then, he would be flashing to the converted.

The silliness of making out these mobs were engaged in some noble action is laughable. Why don't you go on to tell us how worthy it was of the same sort of mobs burning down Reeves Corner in 2011.

No I am not but, of course, it suits your agenda to think otherwise. For those too young to remember there were regular skirmishes between the police and AW mob mostly handbags but they would send in the snatchers quite often. They hated us and we really hated them and Thatcher was hardly flavour of the year amongst the younger generation either but they loved her. Hence, the Tory membership card from his wallet on show. A bit of winding up. Not up close in yer face action but he wasn't making any effort to hide it either.
