This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr I have never posted before but really felt I wanted to when I read the sad news of John McCormick's passing. Condolences to all family and friends. Me and Dad were at the Sheffield United game also, in the Old Stand enclosure. I remember Big John McCormick's goal in that game at the Holmesdale end and talk about "icing on the cake"! And also Tony Taylor's goal at the Whitehorse Lane end and if memory serves John "Yogi Bear" Hughes' thunderbolt free kick from the edge of the box at the Holmesdale end. And Match of the Day had picked the game for their main highlights on the basis that Sheff Utd would wallop us and we walloped them instead! Mac was my Dad's all-time favourite. I don't think he was ever beaten in a heading duel and was so reliable. God Bless You Big John.

Don't often post on here but when I read that Big John has passed away I had to pay my respects. Probably between him and Jacko they were the main reasons we managed to last as long as we did when we went up in 1969. R.I.P. a TRUE Palace legend. My thoughts exactly.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr I too would like to add my thanks and to send my condolences. He, together with Blyth, Sewell, Jackson, Kember, Byrne and Woodruff are my main men from the 60s. He played and fought for CP and must have been very happy to have seen what they have achieved in the last few years but without the likes of John Mac none of it would have been possible.
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr A monster on the pitch an lovely, quiet man off it. I met him several times in the days when players were much more approachable. Sincere condolences to Big John's family and friends.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr Bought to replace Alan Stephenson if I recall correctly after his big money move to Wet Spam. A tough act to follow but boy, did big John do it! I loved his absolute no- nonsense defending and a number of duals with "Big" Jack Charlton when he came up for corners. I don't think he ever got anything from John and there were a few "full and frank" discussions between them . Condolences to his family he truly was one of a kind.
I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr Big John was one of my heroes too. After he retired he ran a pub at the top of the road where the Two Brewers is in South Norwood. My late brother and me went in there a few times and I can confirm what every one is saying he was a great centre half and a really nice man. Rip big John
