Indeed there did. A proper old late-Victorian asylum on Dartford Heath. My next-door neighbours back in the day (in Northumberland Heath, Erith) worked there. I played cricket there a few times, and play regularly had to be suspended while the 'guests' took a stroll across the square. I played on Chislehurst Common too, but there were fewer such incidents!

Yes it's at the roundabout as you come off Dartford heath down to Bexley. Now big bucks flats and apartments. Lovely butchers next door called Dennis of Bexley. Highly recommend. That's my plug of the day done

A variation on that is "champagne tastes on larger wages "

"It's not the bullet that's got my name on it that concerns me; it's all them other ones flyin' around marked 'To Whom It May Concern.'"

My father used to say "Children should be seen but not heard".

My mother-in-law (Now sadly deceased) evidently used to say sometimes after she woke in the morning "I look like the wreck of the Espress"

Some more my mothers.

Looks like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards..

Or even worse.

Looks like a pig tied up round the middle. If someone with more than an ounce of fat was wearing something tight fitting.
