Edited by Stirlingsays (03 May 2017 9.11pm) And what is 'my attitude'? So, to clarify, because males historically have high rates of suicide we should just accept it and move on? Mental health awareness has increased amazingly in the last few years and hopefully this will lead to a reduction over the years to come. I've seen people very close to me really struggle because they haven't opened up about their feelings because it's not the 'manly' thing to do. So f*ck this historical notion of how a man should and should not act. And in my experience, the more 'masculine' a guy acts, the more issues and insecurities they are hiding underneath the surface. Take dannyh for example.

Shield maidens were a very very very very tiny number of women and that's if they ever existed at all. There is no actual proof of them. If they did they were probably very rarely the equal of men in actual combat. Probably very true, but its fiction. Likely the stories of shield maidens are more about the mythology and experiences maybe of people who attacked settlements when the men were absent - and its likely that women had to protect their holdings - as well as fend off things like wolves etc. Of course Spartan women were noted for their ferocity by the Athenians (largely because of a shortage of men caused by military camapaigns, Spartan women, boys, slaves and old men were likely to have to fight). And of course its also as likely that this myth was perpetuated for the same reason that the Spartans questioned the sexual proclivities of the Athenians. Also its likely that if there were shield maidens they would have used spears, rather than swords, as its a more practical weapon for a woman. Plus the idea of female warriors kind of fits with their mythology and the Valkyries. Of course its not beyond the realm of possibility that there were some warrior women (Boudica) but I suspect the truth is more a propaganda about how easy it is to defeat 'the Britons' that even our women can best them. In popular culture they have been hugely over blown....In part to satisfy the urges for unreality of blokes like your good self. Yet here you mock the 300. That's an actual real event we are pretty sure about that must of involved much masculinity. Well except for the number 300, which is a massive disservice to the 700 Thespians and the 400 Thebans who also fought and died. And of course the fact that the Spartans didn't fight individually, but were reknown for the Phalanx, and their use of armour, rather than baby oil. The Spartans were very pro-military - they produced armour for all their warriors, as opposed to the Athenian tradition of a warrior equipping themselves. What did happen, is that they were all lead by a Spartan king, who died there. It was also fairly insignificant in terms of the Persian war, other than being propaganda of heroism. But it does have the glory of free men and tragedy that the far more important battle of Salamis doesn't (because the Greeks used the terrain, and won in what kind of amounted to a cunning massacre...). Whether the Spartans were actually f-cking each other is besides the point...It's another area of debate...Though it must be remembered that reproduction in Sparta was enforced...Like most things. Fiction, best enjoyed as fiction. Almost every portrayal of battle in the dark and medieval period is unrealistic because its not great for cinematography. Armies fought in formation, armour, and the less sexy weapons with reach were the most significant.

Most women want a man to be a man and not a violent, sexist pig nor a baggy trousered ballet enthusiast. If you can manage that balance, which is not difficult, you'll be ok. I think, women like men, have no real idea what they want, and tend to make do with what's available. Sexist pigs, violent thugs, and assorted c**ts of the ilk of unattractive personalities, are generally dislikeable by both genders. Male ballet dancers, do seem to be very popular with women

But try not to be a c**t, and treat people how you'd want to be treated in return.
