I'd tend to agree, but with the proposed increase in parachute payments, plus the TV money for a season, they'd receive the thick end of £200m for doing absolutely nothing beyond turning up. Even taking out their current annual loses, it will still return a huge chunk of what he's put it. On the other hand, he could do what we're doing and invest in the squad, but with no guarantee of staying up (and don't we know it?) and risk getting back very little. I would have thought, with relatively little need to spend on infrastructure (unlike us), they'd be chucking some sizeable money into playing staff, but they don't appear to be prepared to do that for whatever reason. We'll see soon won't we?

Competitive it may be, but there's a massive difference in quality between the Championship and the PL. We'll just have to see how they get on if they really are planning doing it on a shoestring.

Means very little. You have to turn a high possession winning team into a low possession low points scoring team that counter attacks more and clinically with little room for errors and mistakes. Garvan bossing our defence into attack moves in the championship and then being found out on day 1 v Spurs a perfect example and one they'll relate to, especially as they wanted him to slot into their pattern of play. Relegation clauses in contracts cutting wages by 50% that are 80% or more likely to be triggered? That's the first consideration before how quick it is to fly home 3 times a year.
