Well most outlets for gambling are also problematic in that they tend to be an outlet for money laundering, and often as a result association with gangsters. Gambling and rigging odds, is prevalent in most sports, probably more than we realise, because its not really about 'making money' when something rigged, but cleaning money. Sure, gambling syndicates exist, rigging odds, and spreading around bets to ensure they make a big win. But sports betting has a long history of association with cleaning 'cash', and the race track and the dogs, with bars, food, betting are well regulated as a result - but the problem is that regulation is more about trying to ensure 'the punters'. Most gambling has moved on line, and the dogs, unlike the horses, has always been a more 'personal' affair. As a venue, a dog track is ideal for laundering money. You've got bars, food, restaurants, car parking and all manner of concessions, along with payments and prizes. Sad thing is, I love a night out at the Dogs in the summer, some fun bets, a hot dog, a few beers watching those magnificent animals thunder around the track. That and speedway, both really visceral sports. Nothing like em.

Dog racing isn't profitable, that is why they are closing down. The land they sit on is far more valuable, especially in London.

Trainers don't just 'threaten' to have dogs put down... they actually do it when push comes to shove because that dog is costing them money. That is why charities like the RGT, GRW, DAWG etc need to keep educating the public and the Greyhound Racing Association (GRA) to take more responsibility for the greyhounds welfare. I agree with you though, they do make lovely pets.... yes he did and he replied coherently with knowledge

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

It's obvious you have a problem with me, rather than post unhelpful comments just say what i have done that has offended you - and if necessary I will apologise. Otherwise if you can't be civil, ignore what I have posted and I will ignore you. I have PM'd you to try and sort this out! Edited by Hoof Hearted (30 Mar 2017 12.51pm)

Horse/Dog racing is a great way to launder money, or so I understand. I'm told a lot of Irish builders do it. Back all the runners, so you get 20K back, regardless of the outcome. You may pay 21K for the privilege, but the 20K you get back is still better than what you would have paid, if you'd declared it as income and paid tax on it. The same goes for any other "dirty" money. To be clear, this is a believable rumour I'm posting. I can' 100% say this goes on. But for tax dodging/cleaning dirty cash it certainly seems plausible.

I would doubt it goes on in dog racing, Very hard to find a bookie that will take large bets on the dogs anything over a few hundered and they panic. Even bookmakers at horse racing limit somer bets, i tried to place £200 on a 10/1 shot at Sandown once, bookie said i can only take £100 of it. Some of the big meetings take bigger bets but most are done online.

I've tried to make the peace, but clearly you don't want to. There are plenty of people on here for me to interact with on a pleasant footing, so I don't need your sniping (especially if there is nothing to sort out as you say).

Yeah... of course you did.... but only because you've got a downer on me.... Admit it. Otherwise you've got no reason to keep trolling me have you? And you didn't have the courtesy to reply to my PM.
