I totally agree with this and can't understand why football is so far behind other sports. Almost every wicket in cricket they check for no-ball; the basic legality of the wicket. Every goal should be routinely checked for offside. The Gabbiadini incident was a shocker. Penalties are less clear-cut but the idea is not to create a perfect world, just eliminate the howlers.

In the event of a close decision which isn't absolutely nailed on, the decision stays as it was called orginally if the TV evidence isn't conclusive. There has to be conclusive proof that a decision was incorrect. So for example, if teams had one challenge per game then we could potentially have challenge Snodgrass' penalty and Southampton could have challenged the Gabbiadini offside. In more debateable situations, Wilf on Saturday for example, the call would remain the same. The added impact of these to me, is not only to fix obviously bad decisions, but also empower and encourage referees to make calls in the first place. It lessens the need for a referee to feel like he's playing it safe? In cricket, in terms of an LBW an umpire makes a decision and then it is reviewed if challenged. He doesn't fall back on technology each and every time he believes that it COULD be LBW. Different for 'Run-Outs' for example, when umpires will call for technology if it is a close-call. When one considers the use of technology in football, a number of thoughts enter one's mind ie Manager challenges, when should a referee call for the video, should a 5th official advise the referee during the game, what should he call it for etc etc etc. Can get quite detailed and complicated but interesting all the same. You cannot be offside from a corner or if the ball is cut-back to a player who scores so why check for offside in these circumstances ? Maybe a case of availing of technology/5th referee for "Interfering with opponent" etc etc when a goal is scored eg Player in offside position affecting sightline of goalkeeper.

Wasn't it Wilf going over in the box (not saying a dive by the way) that relegated Peterborough from the Championship? Or have I dreamt up some fantastical scenario that didn't happen? Foul in Gabbidon. But that was absolutely hilarious, that knobhead Durham on TalkSport had started a campaign: #NoMorePensForPalace Then we relegated his team, with a penalty. Glorious.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

I'm not suggesting changing the rules of the game. It's just that, in the modern era of Hawkeye it shouldn't be possible for a goal to be allowed from an offside position - or given offside when not.

I'd like to see yellow and red cards awarded in hindsight as well, even if the ref did see it. Especially for diving. If a player got a penalty for diving and a review panel decided it's a dive then they ought to pick up a ban. And don't say they couldn't reach a decision. Reds and yellows get overturned based on a review so why not awarded on appeal too?

I would go as far as saying nothaving video technology is slowly bring the game into disrepute. There are too many bad decisions being let.standing and the build up will eventually turn people off the sport.

Are you saying that if too many wrong decisions affect Palace that you would stop supporting them? It's not surprising that football is slow to adopt modern technology as the game is run by dinosaurs anyway so what do you expect

Your memory is OK, I remember it vividly. One of the worst, most inept attempts at a dive I've ever seen. Clearly the work of a player who's never done something like that before.

Yes.Did you see Anthony Taylor's ridiculous award of a penalty today to Burnley v Swansea when a Burnley player (Vokes) handled? Video technology would never allow that penalty to be awarded. The whole thing's a joke. Even Wimbledon tennis is ahead of the Premier League.
