Honestly in my eyes things started to go downhill when we signed Cabaye. We have too many lightweights in the centre of the park for sure. Liked my Puncheon pun so much I started a new thread with it!! Boom boom. I hope this new Serb has some nous about him and can start to drill those around him to just do the basics properly. I would love Tony Pulis back right now. I totally agree.Lack of physicality, lack of pace etc etc.

Others on here have said it and they are right. I cannot believe we play Punch ahead of a naturally gifted and (once upon a time) world class defensive midfielder in Flamini. He might not be world class anymore but he can play that position with more skill in his little toe than Puncheon can. And McArthur on the left wing?? What the f*** is that all about??
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

He used to get played in the hole. He is like that kid at school who can play anywhere. He can probably play in goal. I think he can play ice hockey too. Its a joke, joking aside. He needs to play in the middle of the park with that Serbian lad that wont be here next year.....
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

He is getting axed after that shower of sh&&e today. If nothing else this will put the fear of god into Allardyce that his reputation is on the line and he is going to have to ring the changes. Puncheon was playing so well about 2 years ago, he was class, banging in those free kicks. He is awful now. So many players were puncheon above their weight (boom boom) previously and now are looking worse than they actually are. Here's a list of players who I think actually improved whilst Pardew was here. Zaha. McArthur has always been good. Zaha became more direct and tracked back more. Wickham improved I think by training and playing with the likes of Adebayor and Benteke. Ward, Dann, Delaney, Kelly, Hennessey, Puncheon, Ledley, Cabaye, Townsend - all got worse.

Even in a hypothetical sense they are completely different types of players, Puncheon a winger turned number 10. You cannot play defensive mid (dlp whatever you wanna say) in a relegation threatened team with no strength or defensive abilities and to even play it at the top teams like Pirlo did, your vision and understanding of the game has to be near perfect. You become more deluded and your knowledge gets exposed more by the day. Edited by Mstrobez (05 Feb 2017 12.47am)
For your knowledge, all those players were wingers in their youth

Undoubtedly technically gifted, but like possession statistics it's the end product which really counts. Technically gifted at passing it sideways and not scoring. He is an attacking midfield right?

Puncheon should have been dropped last season. He has no discipline to play in any position, wastes possession and creates little rather gives it away after going around in circles. With Ledley yesterday they are both so slow and negative. Add in Ledley its like playing with 9 men and our only good midfield player is on the left wing. We need to pray Luka is top quality as our midfield we are fielding is not even championship standard and making the attack and defence look silly.

Pirlo played in front of the defence in his last years. He wasn't very different from Puncheon. Thiago Motta does it for PSG, Kroos for Madrid sometimes. Not a defensive midfielder, but a deep lying playmaker. If there are 2 central box-to-box midfielders in front of him, it's doable. All he'd have to do is maintain position and close spaces, as the other 2 midfielders would be the ones doing the tackles. McArthur and Cabaye could be those. But I reckon Allardyce will always play them differently: McArthur and Cabaye lower, Puncheon behind the striker. And not having the necessary pace in that position where you're basically the second striker really damages the pressing and recovery of the team. Yes, let's compare Punch to one of the best playmakers ever? His basic story with us over the last 2/3 seasons has been, he wasn't good enough to be a winger once Wilf and Bolasie were on song so he was tried out as a No.10 as Chamakh was injured all the time. He got the odd goal in the beginning but the way the team set up allowed him to basically float and not really have many duties. He is out of his depth now and can't play the position, regardless of who is next to him he doesn't have the vision or ability needed to play the role. Our team isnt good enough to carry him so it highlights how ineffective he is. He isn't a Kroos, Pirlo or a Motta, he's a lad from south London who done alright but has never been top quality. Not an international midfielder that you're comparing him to. Yesterday really did show how much of a difference Cabaye makes in our midfield 3 as once he went off we were lost in the middle.
"They got his own song 'He's just too good for you', it's quite unbelievable but when you see it and he's facing up someone - I actually feel sorry for them, 'Cos he actually is" - Ian Holloway |

Pity we brought on Ledley instead of Flamini. Pity the Home Office couldn't issue Milevojevic' visa in time, as well.
