For me the jury is still out. Compare this to the record of the other managers brought in for the relegation threatened clubs. It is poor in comparison Compare it to the effect Pardew had when he came (and the way that ended) I hope we have turned the corner and he is the man for the job. However while I support him as he is the manager, I do still have my doubts and hope to be proved wrong

I wasn't in favour of his appointment, but I will admit I've become increasingly impressed over the month. We didn't get the new manager 'bounce' we'd have liked or expected, but it should be remembered that SA took over at the worst possible period over Christmas, games coming thick and fast without any time to work with the players on the training ground. It also took a couple of weeks to bring in his own backroom team that to help support and deliver his ideas and messages. Having assessed the squad in the first couple of weeks he quickly identified the areas that needed improving, and the transfer dealings will put square pegs in to square holes, giving the team balance its missed for ages. He also quickly identified that as a team we've lost our identity in terms of the way we play. Against Everton and Bournemouth the performances have been much more based on the style that has worked for us in the PL, compact, hard to breakdown, and great on the counter. In the post-match interview after Bournemouth, Wilf referred to the fact it was much more of a Palace like performance. Finally, I enjoy watching his interviews and press conferences. He's honest in his appraisal of things, and answers questions rather than try and divert or give a politicians response. As I said, I wasnt' in favour when he was appointed, but I think he's putting the foundations in place to begin to have a strong influence on performances and positive results. The next few games are key, but if the improvements from Everton and Bournemouth continue, then I think he will win the majority of us round.

I am happy to be shot down and know doubt will be. I was always a pardew fan and wanted him to succeed. However he flew buy the seat of his pants. He blew his chance and should have gone in the summer.Allardyce brings organisation and experience and I think he will keep us up.The players know(new ones will know quickly) what to do and when. Bournemouth lacked confidence, leicester and Middlesbrough ( who I think have had their best run) will be drawn in to the relegation battle. We have the best squad in my time as a fan. Wilf, Betenke,Remy,Dann,Van Aarnholt,Cabaye etc should provide us with enough quality.
God, it makes me so angry....I am gonna find a little bloke... I'm gonna have a fight! |

I pretty agree with your sentiment. I do feel that the squad Pardew left behind was not fit enough and this negated any bounce effect that a new manager may have and had resulted in conceding near the end of games. I was heartened by the manner in which the game was won and the definite improvements in organisation, especially the drilling of a secure and well aligned back line which has been missing since shortly after Pulis left.Only time will tell but I am heartened at this stage. For me the jury is still out. Compare this to the record of the other managers brought in for the relegation threatened clubs. the best thing you can say about pardew is he is a good impact manager ok for a few months then he gets found out , i really deeply dislike him as a man and as football manager but i think he would make a good england manager for one tournament which he said him self on more than one occasion ,but sam is a proper manager from day one he has done the right things we should have beaten watford and we should have beaten swansea there has been gradual improvement, sam is a mentally well balanced intelligent man, pardew has mental health issues and was egocentric surrounded himself with yes men any body who tried to offer another opinion was out the door like ben garner a well qualifed coach ,for sam to sort out the mess that fraud left us is a massive job lets hope he can do it we have a long way to go yet, but i do think we are lucky to have him

What I like about what's happening now is that the team is beginning to seem more solid, confident and aware of what its doing. Solid, substantial changes are beginng. To happen in terms of team attitude and team performance and this yeilds a sense of confidence (in me at least!) that results will steadily improve: from clean sheets to narrow victories... And of course we now have 4 excellent new players to plug the gaps where the team were performing badly

Good post and agree with it. Sam mentioned that there are no moe midweek games for a while so he will have more time to work with the players, and to integrate the new players into the team Trouble is the last month of the season is against top 6 teams, so we need to be well clear of the drop zone in the next 6 weeks Actually 6 of our last 12 games are against the top 6. That starts in 4 matches time. But hey one in every 3 games are against top 6 so slightly bigger percentage. Its called being in the premier. With our new signings and SA on board my hopes are rising.
