If it was Wilf they would be crucifying him all day long, even if it's a stonewall penalty.

Perhaps Shearer has sour grapes over some comments exchanged between him and Parish on social media (about Zaha funnily enough) so he could be letting this cloud his actual judgement and calling what he wants to see (and has gotten the MOTD panel on board with this).

Anyway, i wouldn't listen to any of those clowns at the BBC, if they spoke and had as much sense as they thought they had, they would be full time managers. Look what happened to Shearer when he stepped up to the plate.

Ruud Gullit expressed a thought I've often had though - why are refs reluctant to award something if the player stays on his feet? If they do that more often, players dive less (because it's a double chance - if I stay up I may score OR I may get the penalty).

BBC make a big deal out of it because it may impact the title race, but it's far more important in reality at the other end of the table (title winners and runners up is just an honour, relegation is a real and massive impact on a club)

Good idea in theory, but referees seem to have a lack of consistency in challenges/dives that end up on the ground as it is, so I can only imagine that more controversy would happen over this, like opposition teams complaining that the other team already had their advantage or refs not knowing the fine line between a fair challenge and a penalty as it is a vague line.

Shearer always spouts sh1t as we all know especially when it comes to Palace and more so after Steve Parish put him in the picture about our Wilf. He will always be bias when it comes to our club hence the reason I treat all he sys with the contempt it deserves. He was always mouthy as a player.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

The man said 'Alexi Sanchez is not world class' and still sticks to his statement - he should just be ignored.

Good point

Now they are no longer in football, they have become typical big corporation middle men. (with the possible exception of Robbie Savage, who seems to have retained his waggishness)

Shear is like one of those clueless middle management yes men, who bullies anyone down the hierarchical order, but kisses the butts of people higher up.

Slags off Palace all day, got all the sensitivity ad compassion of Blakey from Off the Buses, without the sense of humour or charisma.

He's a horrible, charmless plodder, with nothing original to say whatsoever. He talks the football equivalent of corporate jargon. He's got two phrases: "He's entitled to go down" and "I'm sorry but he goes down too easily" which are used in accordance with the wealth of the club involved.

I just realised who Shearer reminds me of. CJ from Sunshine Deserts, in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Perrin.

I can just see Shearer saying stuff like, "I didn't get where I a today by going down too easily"

What a pillock. And that's swearing

Yes, although somewhat less erudite. Erudition about the level of Fletcher from Porridge but obviously with obnoxious piggery instead of comic genius. The kind of idiot that would get a genuine laugh out of people coming into meetings in his office and sitting down on fart cusions. For the 100,000th time.

I dislike Shearer with a passion. I cannot watch/listen to him on TV.

I long for the impartial and insightful pundits of yesteryear, who were not grinding axes.

Brian Moore
Des Lynham
Jimmy Hill
John Motson

Of the 'new generation' I think Robbie Savage is rather good.

I disengage, I turn the page.

I'm no fan of Shearer and zone out while he's droning on tbh I've learnt more on these forums than listening to him.....
Except when he's talking about what goes on in the 6 yard box where he is a proven expert whether we like it or not. When Remy hit a low cross across the 6 yard box on Saturday I was wondering why Benteke wasn't on the end of it. Shearer said the same thing on MOTD.

Calling for an apology is a fruitless waste of time but I agree with the other poster upthread. It's totally unprofessional for him to be swearing like that about another club on his twitter when he's a paid pundit on a taxpayer funded channel. Makes him look stupid.

Just show Benteke a recording of Shearer slagging him off. If that doesn't motivate him nothing will.
