I hope wilf does really in the tournament, Good luck to him. He's given a lot to this team. The least we can do is to support him in his international career. His family must be really proud of him and so should we be. Sorry but needs must and we need him back. Absolutely ridiculous time to have a tournament.

Can't blame the players from wanting to represent their country, totally understandable but every two years at the peak of the season isn't very fair on the clubs that pay massively for them. Why not once every four years?

We want the best part of both worlds... We want to sign african players with their talent and well knowing by the existence of Africa Cup and then we want to change that reality because doesn't suit us. Edited by Portuguese (21 Jan 2017 11.34am)

Why not once every four years? On the flip side, the clubs know when they pay massively for these players they will be playing in a competition every 2 years (Wilf may be an exception as he's switched allegiances but that is irrelevant). It's not like it's only just started, its been going for 60 years. That is the way the tournament has been set up and every club knows it, deal with it plain and simple.

Why not once every four years? One reason I heard was that there's not enough competitive international football in Africa if AFCON is every 4 years - I think it was from Tim Vickery.

Why not play European Tournament and African Cup of Nations at the same time to cause minimum disruption to domestic league structure. Why also play ACN every four years as opposed to two?
