Southampton managed it. Brighton too. Don't Southampton have a billionaire owner? Not sure about Brighton's finances, but I doubt it is easy to manage.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

It's actually the opposite. I think that we could benefit from going down and getting the infrastructure of the club up to scratch for a return to the top flight for years to come.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Southampton managed it. Brighton too. Southampton improved their structure decades ago and have a scouting network that enables them to find players, sell at a profit and find as good, if not better, replacements. Add to that they are a relatively attractive club that middle ranking players want to join. We have none of this. Brighton's free spending chairman decided to improve their infrastructure before the team and it looks to have been a sound policy. When they're promoted he will spend on players like a drunken sailor on shore leave because he can; no need to salt money away for ground and training ground improvements there.

To get out of this mess we need fighters and we dont have them. Our old guard who bought into the Pulis way have had 4 years Prem money now and have lost their desire and add to them 3 or 4 big earners who dont have the stomach for a scrap and you have an irreversible situation

Okay then, if we go down then we can spend our richer than Brighton's owners, owners billions to sort our infrastructure out, then come back up. Either way it won't be a disaster as we now have billionaire owners. Billions of pounds can avert any distaster.

Bloom is an altruistic owner, whose prime motivation is not making a profit. Harris and Blitzer are investors, looking for a return on their cash in a reasonable timescale. They won't keep piling dollars into a money pit.

But now FFP makes it harder for rich owners to spend, also I am not sure what appetite they will have to pour good money after bad.

I think a lot will depend on Allardyce's desire to get us out of this mess. Sunderland were worse than us when he took over last season. Remember how embarrassing some of their performances were, including against us. If Big Sam is willing and able to roll his sleeves up and stamp some authority then I think we'll be ok, but if he's come in with a hangover from the England debacle then we could be in trouble. I think we might see one our two faces come in both in the team and on the training ground that are well known to our new boss. He surely must recognise we need some strength of character right now and sometimes it's good to get who you know, even if it may not be glamorous or exciting. A couple of weeks on the training ground, some time for key players to recover/return from injury and a couple of new signings and then let's see what happens at West Ham.
