I bet things will be different when he returns, Was pushing your buttons and you finally did something about it. Now that its been recorded with the company they have a duty to ensure it does not continue. He will be on his best behaviour as his job will be on the line. You have the upper hand now.

Why did you decline a Trade Union rep to go with you or one of the other people who have also had grief ?

All though I will still see him in corridors/toilets and when unloading lorries from deliveries etc. They have just given me this letter. I have tried crossing out names using a app on my phone so I apologise for the mess. And by they way they told me I could have a work colleague present but said nothing about a union..

Well done... that was the best way to deal with it.

They didn't offer me a trade union rep. The HR woman just said to me I could take a work colleague in if I wanted but I probably wouldn't need one. So I didn't take anyone in. It was only telling me what the letter said anyway

Well done mate, hope that is a weight off - no direct interaction, hopefully an easier life, and him on a bit of a watch-list. Best of luck.

It's not really a weight off as I'll be seeing him around and he will still be getting away with doing things sadly

I'd always bring a work colleague to these things if you possibly can, so that you have a witness and they know you are serious.

That letter may or may not resolve it but I'd be unhappy that the scrote had not received at least a warning. I don't see how you can decide within five days whether it's sorted or not because the idiot could just lie low for that time then carry on in the knowledge that you would need to raise a further grievance. So I think I'd write back reserving the right to renew this grievance in the event of recurrence and stressing that they as an employer have the obligation to make the workplace safe for you.

Then if he opens his gob once more complain immediately and if nothing is done the advice about sick leave for work related stress applies. Back that up with a sol letter.

In the meantime look for another job, insist on giving a leaving interview, and in it make all the points above about how you're too good to work in a s***ehouse like this.

100% correct and get them to write down everything said by you and them.

Also, anything else happens with this guy, made a written note straight away, including when it happened and the time of your note.

Good for you OP for doing the right thing and confronting it...

Good luck!

Years ago, before I was a lawyer, I had a bully boss who tried to get me kicked out.....luckily I belonged to a union...the union person who helped me stopped it in its tracks and the boss ended up leaving. That's why I've got a lot of time for trades unions...serve a really good function notwithstanding 100 plus years of constant one sided right wing media abuse

just read through your story and I am so impressed that you have handled it the way you did.
I, like many on here had a line manager who was a bully who was supported by his line manager, eventually I went to my union and a meeting was held. it never happened again although I was not popular with management. I had to continue to work with him and eventually i did find myself another job, he did get undone eventually and was relocated to a different job, later he got the sack which brought me great joy. I admire your restraint as it has bought you time (to find another job) and exposed his behaviour to the employer, bullys never change you have effectively given him a hiding and who knows his full undoing may yet come and he is no longer your line manager. Congratulations

To me, the key phrase in that letter from you management is "he will no longer have any requirement to inter react with you in a professional capacity".

That means that if he does speak to you, or try to bully you in any way he will be in breach of what is required of him at work - report it immediately to your line manager.

Glad to see that things will have hopefully eased for you, and like others on here admire the way you have dealt with this.

So effectively they have promoted this bully to the next level of his incompetence ? That's a good way of sorting things ,...?

Your employers have swerved the issue. From this moment keep a diary of any interactions/witnesses/videocam footage. This would form the basis of any future formal complaint (whether in a Union , or not) and would prove decisive 'if' it were to go to tribunal/court. Start it NOW.

I had to endure this sort of stuff in a former job, which ultimately I had to leave. Then I took my former employers to court and got a nice 'out of court settlement' before the hearing, because my 'constructive dismissal' resignation letter contained 3 pages of instances where I had been bullied at work.

But it is shlt having to go through this stuff for months on end with a line manager who doesn't know how to manage. It impacts your worklife, homelife and sleeping patterns and stress levels.

Shysters. I hate them
