Jedinak ,moving on was the correct decision and four million pounds, or whatever it was, certainly made it even more sensible to say farewell. We had Cabaye, Mutch, Lee, Puncheon, McArthur and Ledley for three midfield positions so imagined, wrongly, that we had decent cover already for a player who was not an automatic starter. Jedinak read the game so well and was often aware of where the defensive gaps were that needed plugging. However, his passing was often his Achilles heel and we needed better in that DM position if we are to progress. Unfortunately we have seen McArthur moved further forward, Cabaye following up behind the attack and Ledley more a liability than asset. Puncheon is truly dreadful at any defensive duties and Mutch has done nothing to merit a place in the team. Lee, whilst he has his moments, is another of the Guedioura, Bannon etc. type midfielders who are not quite Premier league quality. In my opinion we need a high quality defensive midfielder and have been linked with one in Morgan Schneiderlin. Another option may be Kirchhoff who was fantastic in that role for Sunderland last season and due to return to fitness next month. Other possibles include Jon Obi Mikel who is out of favour at Chelsea, Bastian Schweinsteiger set to leave Man United, Lucas of Liverpool, Delph from Manchester City and McCarthy from Everton. Such a player then allows the likes of Puncheon, Cabaye, McArthur to play further forward without overly exposing the defence. So no we do not miss Jedinak but we DO miss a player of his ilk. Jedi is a f**king great defensive midfielder, but unfortunately that's about it. He's also getting on a bit, and his legs were going. Now he's better than Ledley, McArthur and Cabaye as a DM, but they also have much more capacity to their game in midfield than Jedi. Odd as it seems, defensively, we were probably at our best with Jedi and KG playing in that holding role. They were, defensively, an immense pairing, but they never really had more to contribute beyond that.

But as he became less mobile his impact waned. That's when his inability to pass and create much became a real problem.

Edited by james03 (11 Nov 2016 1.39am) I'd argue that is where the problem is. To address the lack of a proper attacking midfielder we've now compromised our midfield two that were so good this time a year ago. If we had an attacking midfielder who could play closer to Benteke, then McArthur can go back to patrolling the midfield, playing closer to Cabaye and protecting the full backs.

Some great quotes here on Jedi from Villa fans :
Massive disappointment. I really thought he would help sort our midfield problems , but he is nowhere near the player I saw playing for Palace. Whether the travelling has taken its toll I don't know , but Gana looked pants last season and is now starring for Everton , so I think it's a mix of Jedinaks decline and the fact that our midfield as a unit is dysfunctional.
Have to say I thought this would prove to be a very good signing ( unfortunately I appear at this stage to be wrong) Legs seem to have gone, leadership qualities questionable .... Disappointing
The only positive that I can see so far regarding our signing of Mile Jedinak, is that the guy cannot be as bad as he looks? Hence, surely things can only get better? Oh yes, he's renowned for his pointing. He's different class. Every time he points I jump out of my seat in expectation.
I personally struggle to bring up the name of any other individual wearing the claret and blue, who offered so little, contributed so little, yet played so many games. It completely baffles me.
I can't believe how poor this guys passing is. It's embarrassing that this guy is apparently a good player and he plays like that
I am absolutely stunned on what we have actually got. No pace, no skill, no hunger. I dont know why he is like that, is it travelling, is it age, is it hunger - I have no idea. The only thing I do know is that he does not deserve a place in our team at the moment, and if that means playing Ashley Westwood, then so be it. Read more: [Link]

Seems like we did a good bit of business, £4m for a worn out player. Doubtless many on here, still want him back, god knows why.
