You either had to take a break or type that post on the small of your lovely Alan's back. Didn't make me unhappy that we beat the current sh1t in the division, pal. I'm just a bit more balanced and know they were dross and the next 4 and more games are tougher. And guess what, we will probably get 1 point or 2 or 4 if we're lucky. I won't complain. But I will if the run continues into 6,8 or more games. He is neither great or bad, just average. And who the fvck are you to tell anybody who they should support or what they should do? Oh I forgot. Best footballer in Caterham obce upon a time. And that was a serious claim. Feckin hell.

.. back to the question .. it is so glaringly obvious and as I, and many others, have repeatedly pointed out: we have no creative midfield. Passes sideways, backwards, abortive one-twos and the get-rid-of-it-quick mentality just doesn't work, not for us anyway. That is why Gayle had no chance - he didn't get the through balls he thrives on. Similarly with Murray. Both will now prosper and in Gayle's case I am confident he will make the PL grade if Newcastle get promoted. Our eggs seem all to be in the one basket - Benteke. For all his ability he can't expect to convert the few crosses he gets if he is marked by two or three defenders, as by West Ham. Although past their prime I am sure that the likes of Scott Parker, Lee Tomlin, even Ben Watson would be a temporary fix until we can get a young, genuine ball-holding player who can move it forward while the forwards get in position. We have absolutely no one at present, apart from Lee, who can fill this vital role. That's the main reason we lost, and it will continue because we don't have the skills for the 'new style of play'

Surely the reason we lost was because Benteke took the worst penalty in league history. As others have already pointed out. The Pires one for Arsenal was pretty shocking in it's execution as well. Even Neymar (£71.5 million) is not immune . . .

Hearing Bilic was playing 3 central defenders and cresswell coming back at left back after their awful display vs Southampton had me expecting a likely West Ham win. Pardew being a streaky and average manager who can deliver only when a plentiful selection of players are available. Not a complaint but it's a limitation for a while. Control Benteke with the 3 central defenders and control our wingers and its job done. They are the reasons we lost as well as the penalty miss. Wasn't expecting much from the last 2 and the next 2 which is why I wasn't doing cartwheels after beating the dross that is Middlesbrough, Stoke and Sunderland. Now we're playing better sides some reality and waking up with the team and management is hopefully setting in or we could be on a 4-6 game run or more without a win again. They do, but probably not as much as when he tries to play the ball out. I think whilst we wait for Dann's return we have to accept his punts out. But, I agree they don't do us many favours.

I am as frustrated with Delaneys punts as the next man especially on Saturday as they were set up to double up on Benteke from the off.He tried dropping it shorter into the area between midfield and the forward line a few times as well and virtually every time we lost possession.Part of the problem is Puncheon playing the deeper role in midfield in my opinion, hes not a natural DM whereas McArthur is.Benteke gets isolated too often because McArthur is 20 - 30 yards away busting a gut to get nearer and join on.As good as Punch's stats are for the season I hope AP reverts back to Cabaye and McArthur in midfield with Punch or even better Remy when hes back, in a position to play off Benteke as soon as we win possession back.If we can get someone nearer and even able to run past him when he is in the air it gives opponents much more to think about.

They played a 3-5-2 knowing that we would only play one up front. The 5 man midfield allowed them to deny Palace space and additionally they pressed the ball meaning Palace lost possession and were forced into errors. Once they got possession they kept it very well. Even though I dislike Noble due to his constant berating of referees, he didn't stop moving and geeing up his players. I didn't see that with us.

In truth, they won because they converted on of their otherwise fluffed decent chances. We lost because we spooned a couple of better ones. Both us and them can be thankful to their keepers (either for the 3 points or not being worse) and the weather was f**king awful. Also they did a good job of keeping both Zaha and Townsend under control.
