I suspect that there is alot behind the fact that premiership players don't have the same desire to play for England as they do for their clubs (plus i wonder how much influence is put on them by their managers not to get injured - ie. go into full bloodied tackles).

Wouldn't it be interesting if the England manager put out a statement, by picking talented players outside the premiership for a game.

These players would be so delighted to play for England, and put in 100%.

Players like Will Hughes (Derby), Iforia & Hause (Wolves), Charlie Taylor (Leeds), Dale Stephens (brighton).

Not only are they playing for England, but also showing they can play at a higher level. Infact the Under-21's won 5-0 last night even though their manager is now managing the senior team.

A dream too far though.

As I said, Mike Bassett style, just pick a load of full blooded lower league beasts

I must say Ild like to Southgate to say 'feck it, the U21's could play better than you lot, so i'm gonna play them instead"

...although I seem to remember they didn;t do much better at their Last tournament!

Personally I think we just haven't got the players at the moment. If we do, why are we playing players who can't even get in their club teams at the moment. Where is the spine of the team - the experienced centre half who puts his bosy on the line, the midfield general who drives the team on by example, the centre forward who puts himself about a bit and causes problems for the defence.
are stones and cahill that? Is Henderson that? Is Sturridge that?
Why play with two wingers and never put a cross in. Why play with two wingers and select a centre forward who's rarely in the box.
yet again it seems that you have to be a player from one of the top teams to play for England, even if you're not a regular starter for that team. Players like Dann, deeney, drinkwater would all have done a better job last night - but will they get a chance?
Sorry to rant, but that was one of the most dissapointing England performances I can remember for a long time.

Probably more interesting, and certainly emotionally rewarding. I don't know how fans manage to watch and go to England games. Even in the qualifiers we're s**t and bland.

So what if Malta play total defence. These teams have been doing that for 30 plus years now, and still our only plan is to just pass it around the back four a bit, and play the same way we would against Germany.

If we played 90% of our games against teams that super parked the bus in the hope of a point, I'd like to think that after 10 seasons we might have come up with a solution to that.

This group, as with the one for the Euros will see the very same tactics of Park the Bus being used by each and every opponent.

If we had an Italy or Holland then at least two games would be end to end (the on the break tactic would be unnecesary for those opponents) and we would have the space to do more, however each game we have played recently in the last two years is exactly the same (Park the Bus) and we play one player up front with two wide guys (in Walcott and Lingaard currently) and our Centre Forward keeps on dropping off into the midfield and seemingly laying it off to Stones or Cahill.

On a Saturday afternoon - name one Premier League Team that does that? Even against West Brom - who does that?

Last season, only Man Utd played as slowly as England do today, why don't we play like we do every Premier League match - especially against the Park the Bus merchants?

Each side now plays one up top, but he plays the whole game up top - he doesn't drop off (like Sturridge).

There is then either 5 across the middle or they play more of a 4-3-3.

I am not sure what we played yesterday (4 5 1 I think more than a 4 3 3), but can anyone think of any team in the Premier League that plays like England? No wonder the players suffer as it is a completely different system - Tottenham's players do not play like that ever unless they are playing for England.

And not to get confused with Long Ball Football, if it is not working then change it. Benteke for us has changed everything - put a good ball into the box and their defence is in trouble. Our Centre forward had dropped so far off that there was no one to cross it to other than midgets like Walcott and Lingard.

Even when Kane is available you can't just cross it in there - however if you had (God help me for saying this) a Carroll or a Crouch, then at least - having failed with the possession concept we could at least try something else.

The tactics that we should be using should be the tactics every Premier League Team uses against West Brom in this group - all the players know the drill, they play it often and we shouldn't be afraid to change the system when it is failing nor should we continue to play as though we might concede at any second.

I hear what you're saying, but perhaps we don't have a decent enough English manager to implement these tactics. Of the FA's 'English Way', is just not the style played in the Prem.
