Moss is incompetent and never up with play. 9 players booked in a game is some going even by his standards. Still we didn't lose and that probably would have been the case if Clattenburg had taken charge. Edited by Hoof Hearted (02 Oct 2016 12.05pm)

Understand 9 'Yellows' were issued, the most in a PL game this season but there were some for dissent and the players have only themselves to blame given the new directives.

Just read this by someone who has a refereeing affiliation : "the disallowed goal was two of the hardest situations combined for the assistant to deal with. Firstly, the player at the back stick was in an offside position when the ball was played but did not become active. I don’t think the assistant has flagged for that. Then McArthur runs close to the ball in front of the goal. Is he ‘clearly attempting to play a ball which is close to him when this action impacts on an opponent’? I don’t think the assistant can decide that. We can only hope that the officials have talked over the intercom and that Moss has used his better angle to interpret the situation. This just highlights the impossible job officials have with some offside situations.” Doesn’t it just"

Time for coach challenges then. One per half and that's where we draw the line on technology IMO.

Too many bookings and a couple of marginal decisions that could have been interpreted differently but weren't. An average to poor performance from the man in the middle but he didn't cost us the game really. The biggest fault was our not jumping for the free-kick as Damo pointed out in his post-match interview.

Three of our players were booked for dissent. When I reflect on some of the others I can see exactly why the referee brandished a "Yellow" IE Cleverly trip on Zaha, Bolasie challenge on Ward, Oviedo hand around neck etc etc. Cannot remember all of them ! I have heard (Not pertaining to last night's game) comments like "There were X number of bookings and not a bad tackle in sight" - thing is bookings can be for dissent, stopping a breakaway, persistent fouling etc etc so yes there can be quite a few bookings without there being any malicious challenge.

I understood this but I just think a word of warning may have sufficed in a couple of situations. Also some of the bookings for fouls were a little inconsistent. However, nobody's perfect and the ref was not the deciding factor in the game. He could have been better but, then again, we could be Barcelona.

Cricket and Rugby are light years ahead....football with all its millions is still in the position where everyone watching on TV knows what's going on but the poor old ref and linos don't.Coaches should get challenges at the next break in play.

Are you suggesting Manager challenges could be made maybe 5 mins later (During next break in play) after which a goal could have been scored ?

Most of those yellows seemed pretty fair call, a lot were deliberate fouls to break up play. I also like seeing a referee penalise players for acting up and trying to make professional fouls. One or two maybe questionable, but otherwise I think he had a good game. Free kick for their goal should have been indirect, but you rarely see referees give indirect free kicks these days. It was the lino's call that led to the goal being disallowed, the referee even wanted to make sure the call was correct and did the right thing.
