I'm against negativity and I appreciate Cucking Funt's defence of AP.

AP is certainly hard skinned. He had to be as a player. The Arthur Waite Boo Boys were cruel. They booed him on the pitch. They booed him when he came on as a sub. I was in the Sainsburys and heard them loud and clear. He could not have failed to hear it. How could he take it? I couldn't have. I'd have given up. I admired him for it.

BUT on this occasion I think the comments CF was responding to were meant to be humourous. Sometimes it's difficult to tell.

Based on history, I'm not sure it was meant to be humorous.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

We saw what Defoe did last season as a lone striker. This would be a great signing that I doubt will happen.

Yes, he's 33. But even if we only get two seasons out of him if it ensures premier league survival then why not?

A bit like with Kevin Phillips a few years back this could be an inspired signing. Defoe does most of his running in the box, making clever runs before finishing. Up top with a wickham or benteke then I reckon he'd still get into double figures with us.

I know AP is getting hammered on here by some, but I dont get it.
honestly if you listen to what he says in his press conferences and interviews (not what's reported in the written press) he seems to get where are problems are and the targets he's identified and secured are top notch.
I honestly dont think the criticism is fair. Ok we all got fed up with with our league form in the 2nd half of last year, but we weren't the first team whose league form suffered as a result of a cup run.

So what if wed have won a few more games and finished 12th or even 10th? And got to 1/4 final of the cup.
I'm happy we focused on getting to the FA cup final and finished lower down the league. I got two days out that I will never forget.

Get of AP's back were only two games into a new season ffs.

Sunderland would be crazy to sell him.

But for the right price he is well worth having! Proper player you want during a relegation fight.

Would win us many points.

Still can't see it happening.

We could have got Defoe in the January window.
Hard to say if we would have won more games if we had but his uncanny ability to make an opening out of not very much could have been a big difference.
Having said that, unless we get a creative ball-holding midfielder we will struggle again.
It is so obvious I can't believe the manager doesn't see it.

How do you know he doesn't?

No point if Pards doesn't play him. Gayley was only two years off being Defoe's level. No point selling him..only to go buy Defoe.
