In both videos you cannot see what happened. The first man man appears to be restrained but they realise he has a gun and shoot him. Looks unnecessary to me but I expect they will claim that they followed procedure. They'll claim they 'were in fear of their lives', the police union, county and state authorities will close ranks around them, and rubber stamp any inquiries, which will generally be held without independent oversight, and involve interested parties who's own political ambitions have a vested interest in the support of the police. We think the PCC is biased and rigged (75% of investigators are ex-Police), its nothing compared to how inquests into police shootings are conducted in the US

Which one. The guy who was physically restrained or the guy driving his family. I'd say their role is minor and negligible. Neither seems to have been holding a gun when they were shot. I think poor training and procedures played a much more significant role, along with what appears to be a general disdain for human life among US Police officers The first guy, the one who had threatened to shoot the homeless guy. I have been to America and have family out there. Never had a problem with police, but I've never threatened anyone with a illegal firearm.

In my professional realm I hold myself to a very high standard, and expect others to be able to perform their job with expert proficiency and competence. If I hired a solicitor, I would expect them to do a much better job of handling the law, than I could. So, I would hold a police officer, to display a higher degree of competence, professionalism that I would not display in the same situation.

But I think you kinda knew that.

He was black. Shot 4 times? When will something be done - no REALLY be done?!" Something will be done when you stupid people decide to stop allowing guns to be sold to any Tom Dick or Harry and that way the police out there will not have to open fire when faced with situations like this sometimes firing in blind panic because they fear for their lives !!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Some cops act out of fear for their lives, but there is a wider culture of going completely OTT in even standard arrests. They're always throwing people down telling them not to struggle when they are doing no such thing. Nevermind these two cases, there are countless videos where unarmed people are killed by police when the situation was either over nothing to begin with, or could've been deescalated. It's definitely a profession you can enter if you like controlling others and lashing out often without consequence. That taints the reputation of the great many decent cops they are too which is unfair. Hopefully when every cop has a bodycam, that will help matters as there will be a clearer picture of how both parties have behaved. I appreciate that some situations are ambiguous though. The gun situation clearly feeds into it as you say, but its America so that's never going to change. Edited by blackpalacefan (07 Jul 2016 7.48pm)

This sort of thing happens to white people as well but it's not really a story but when a black man gets shot it's like the end of the world has come. Unless the culture and attitude changes over there it wont get any better every joe doesn't need a gun while walking around the streets when I was there it freaked me out.
