The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

The 6 most successful England managers of all time, by win% (6 because, this drags Hodgson in) Manager Win % PPG So the foreign managers seem to have done fine, according to the stats. I'm all for getting an English manager, but not if it means we miss out on a superior foreign candidate who is available.

Redknapp says he's not interested but would he turn it down if offered the job? I doubt it. I'd give Hoddle another chance but I can't see that happening either.

I liked Greg Dyke, he actually appeared to try and change the organisation. Looks like he's given up trying, not sure I can blame him to be honest. Greg Dyke's got a very shady past with privatising wings of the BBC to his own company, shutting down studios and renting to himself at huge expense to the taxpayer. Bent as a nine-bob note. I want a manager who's got some balls to give the hairdryer treatment. Haven't had that for as long as I can remember. He'd NEVER take it but I'd like to see Fergie given a go.

Arguably this is (and has been for some time) England's problem. They are stuck in limbo, still believing they are a footballing giant and so unwilling to adapt their game to acknowledge that actually we're a middle weight (sorry mixing my metaphors now). England don't feel they are able to come and play 8 at the back as some teams do against them, which means they are unlikely to ever progress against the big teams. But they're also not technically good enough to consistently dominate sides who are more tactically astute. Southgate I think will get the job. Not on merit, but because he's a yes man and part of the setup already. Neville is nearly as culpable as Hodgson for the current debacle. And his record at Valencia (which I am pretty sure he only took as a job because the FA/Hodgson said if he got some experience he was a shoe in for the England role when Woy stepped aside) shows he doesn't at the moment have the ability to be the manager. Pardew shouldn't get it. Allardyce would just give me more reason to not care about the England side. In fact I might start actively supporting the other team. Although if anyone in any seriousness mentions Harry dodgy-as-fcuk Redknapp I might actually throttle them through the screen. Statistically - as has already been noted - Cappello and SGE were amongst our very best managers. I am definitely not wedded to an English manager, but I suspect the FA are. Which means Southgate (Eddie Howe has no real top level experience and wouldn't be trusted with the stupidly massive egos of the underperforming cr@p that played yesterday) Edited by OknotOK (28 Jun 2016 9.38am) That's if you buy into high win rates against non entities in qualifiers or pointless friendlies. It's not the criteria that makes a good England manager. It's like arguing Hodgson is a great manager because we won 10/10 in qualifying Sven was crap. He had a fantastic era of players yet the England displays were poor and the end result was the same, whenever we came up against decent opposition in a tournament we came up short. We should have done alot more with all those players. Rooney, Owen, Rio, Terry, Sol, Lamps, Gerrard, Cole, Neville, Scholes, Beckham. To say he did great job is laughable Capello was even worse. The 2010 World Cup was a disaster, the Algeria debacle culminating in the Germany thrashing was as low as the Iceland defeat. To argue a comfortable qualifying campaign makes up for that is, again, laughable. You have to go back further to Hoddle and Robson to find the England managers who did well.

So in your opinion or by looking at this statistic Fabio Capello was an excellent England manager who did a fantastic job and we should beg him to come back?

Doesn't matter who we want. The FA Old Farts will choose for us.... and high on their list of winning attributes will be the candidate's charm and etiquette. Talent, Motivational Skills, ETC..... forget it.

Southgate - please god no, someone who thought they were a midfielder when everyone else knew he was just a defender. And don't even mention penalties with him. Hoddle - again, no. His analysis of the match last night was awful. When we needed desire and toughness to beat Iceland, all he kept talking about was patience and the right ball. Not sure whether he would interested, but what about Jurgen the German.

Hoddle's analysis of the game is very articulate and insightful, he's a very good pundit and you won't find a better, more knowledgeable exponent of the game
