Contract "Release clause" means nothing other than other than it's a minimum fee both club and player have agreed if another club comes knocking, meeting that release clause only give the bidding club the right to talk to the player nothing more, it's up to the player if he wants to listen or not, and neither the player or his club are legally bound by the clause, only the club is legally bound to accept the offer and give permission to the approaching club to speak to the player, nothing else. Which also means it gets touted around by agents that their players' have such contract clauses to possible/likely/potential clubs, then moves can happen. It's more player power, good or bad.

Is Diame really as good as some on here think? Well a box to box midfielder who scores goals he most certainly is not. Box to box he may well be but 16 goals in six Premier League campaigns is not a lot especially given he averages thirty games a season. I saw him about five times last year in the Championship and then all three of Hull's play off games. Yes he scored a cracking goal at Wembley but his contribution otherwise was pretty average. He certainly does not control the game and as for the box to box bit his defending and tackling is not worth a light. Going forward is where he is at his best but he tends to play for himself rather than being able to pick a pass for a team mate. Whilst he scored nine goals last season that was the Championship and we should all know by now how far below PL standard that is. For me Newcastle are welcome to him.

He is pretty decent and importantly is an improvement on many of our existing midfield options AND at 4.5 mill represents good value.

I know we have had some calamitous starts to the season, but Hull are really giving it go. Lose their manager, with no replacement yet and now to lose their best player, with no new recruits.
