David Jones of Brixton, otherwise known to the world as David Bowie (and no one was sure how to pronounce it... LOL).

So many beautiful songs, it's hard to pick one, but I'll go with "Wild Is The Wind" as it seems particularly poignant and sad, as that is how I feel today about his loss.

[Link]

RIP to one of our greatest artistes of all time.

Since he called his son Zowie Bowie, I always presumed that the ‘Bow’ is pronounced like ‘take a bow’ rather than ‘bow and arrow’.

Otherwise he would’ve been called Zoe Bowie - which would have been silly.

That's two times you've commented on that post.

Go for a third... you might have a reasonable point to make that is respectful to David.

Now that someone I care about has died I will take the chance to say this: one of the most contemptable, disgusting facets of this website is the pathetic pleasure some of you seem to derive from creating posts with celebrity names as their titles and the word "dead" in the text portion. It seems that you can't get the post out quickly enough, such is your desire for a small amount of recognition at a time of others' pain and misfortune. This time we even had two posts out at the same time and another five minutes later- you couldn't even wait long enough to check if there was a duplicate thread. It's an insensitive thing to do and not a pleasant way to find out someone you care about has died. I'm not saying it can't be talked about here but jumping on your laptop the instant you find out is NOT the way to do it.

Major Tom signing off.

I'm a massive Bowie fan. SAw him live in 82 and 86. I grew up listening to my older siblings' albums Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust and then discovered all of his other work.
If anyone asked me who my favourite artist is Bowie is always up there.

BUT James your post is way off the mark. The HOL tradition of posting DEAD is no more disrespectful than the BBC tradition of putting BREAKING. I doubt anyone is clamouring for recognition - just passing on the sad news.

Absolute Radio playing all Bowie songs this morningy

RIP you wonderful wonderful man.

Pikester is correct (as he always is).

This is a HOL tradition for announcing the dead and is no way disrespectful or intended to be.

I'll put my tribute to David separately.

When Amy Winehouse died there was a gagging order on here to prevent anyone posting a thread on it until the police had been to every Palace fan individually and told them the news over a cup of tea. But I guess cutbacks have meant they can't do this any more.

So Sad. A true creative genius and master of reinvention. And a South London boy as well - one of our own. RIP David

I guess they only went to immediate family and friends this time. Cameron and Thatcher have a lot to answer for.

I am saddened by his death but this is a forum not a book of condolence. I thought commenting on side issues might be allowed.

But just for you;

Difford is probably one of the best wordsmiths around for song lyrics, so the praise he heaps on Bowie is significant (and the recognition that Bowie inspired him)
