My all time favourite is Jim Cannon LEGEND closely followed by Ian Evans, who was also a superb captain, and was a real 'Rolls royce' of a player.

Honoury mentions to:
Derek Jefferies,
Mel Blyth
Billy Gilbert,
Iain Philip,
Craig Moore,
Mr Spoons - Andy Thorne

A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!!

For *crunch* value - Cannon/Young.

For football *nous* - Evans/Warhurst.

As has been said, it is difficult to compare different eras, but I can remember what a solid player Alan Stephenson was for us in the 60s. He made the England Under 23 side and eventually left us for West Ham in 1968 for a club record fee (about 80K).

Probably Antony Gardner the best in my time.

Closely followed by Dann and Fonte though.

You must be joking. Gardner was a good championship defender. Dann is an excellent premiership one.

Yeah, good point, actually. Don't quite know what I was thinking. Just remember Gards being a class above us when he played for us. But he's no Dann, thinking about it.

Sometimes I forget to take how far we've come into account! It even catches me by surprise.

Ian Evans undoubtedly, goal scorer as well. Closely followed by Cannon & Gilbert.

Yup. He was getting better and better until George Best scandalously broke his leg in a truly outrageous tackle. Never properly recovered after being out for two whole years. Moore was indeed outstanding and nobody has mentioned Boycey. But Jimbo is THE Palace legend.
