Letting Gayle go is a mistake.
this is a bad move letting a game changer like Dwight go out on loan.

I've just been speaking to someone about 'Mitroglou'. Evidently the left-footed striker can score with both feet and his head. He also mentioned that the player is very strong and it is hard to get the ball off him.Bright personality with a very good knowledge of the game and hungry and passionate about his football.I actually thought it was Magath who signed him but I'm informed it was Meulensteen. I know he is not an impact sub, but I struggle to see another striker who we had in the team last year who could do that job. Also, I struggle to see what campbell offers to the team that means we don't need gayle. Yes he bullies defences, but that can't be used to mask the fact that he isn't really a premier league quality striker. Murray is a fantastic striker with a brilliant footballing brain as many have already stated, but clearly, he is getting on and it dosent look like he's going to be our first choice striker, and isn't much of an impact player. Gayle has the pace and ability to open a game when things are becoming flat, and is widely quoted as the best finisher at the club. I believe that he still has a place in the squad, and for certain oppositions with not so well drilled defences, I think he will be in the right place at the right time to get a goal. With improved midfield talent in yohan, I can see him getting on the end of more and more through balls, and if he's got the chance, he will put it in the back of the net. Then again I'm sure wickham is an informed choice and could prove to be both Glenn Murray and gayle rolled into one. Although, I think it will take time. 0 goals in 14 appearances as a sub last season means that while we may have no one better than Gayle for the role of impact sub, we also could not possibly have anyone worse. Bottom line that is that Campbell or Murray could only do as badly in the role. But they couldn't produce less (than zero). Gayle may have pace but, off the bench, he certainly didn't use it to open up games (largely because fast or not, he's not a Premier League standard footballer.) Our real problem last season, and I think in part both Cabaye and Mutch were brought in to address it, is that Zaha and Bolasie both punch below their weight when it comes to scoring goals (in fact, we don't score many from midfield full stop) and this throws the lack of goals from our strikers into relief. It means defenders can focus on the forwards and give the midfielders and wide players a little less attention, not fearing that they're goal threats. If Zaha, Bolasie and Cabaye score 7 or 8 each this season, I guarantee our top scoring forward will get at least 5 more than last season. I think Gayle will be moved on (sale or loan). He'll be moved on for all the reasons highlighted on the last couple of pages of this thread. He's not good enough for this level. If he was, as team without a free-scoring forward, we wouldn't be selling him (and we wouldn't have recruited Bamford and/or Wickham to replace him.) I couldn't care less what people here think of Gayle (I know many love him); I trust the professionals (Pardew/Millen/etc.) to make the right judgement. And it seems they're making it. Sorry fellow HOL'ers if I appear sycophantic, but Syd (who I have never met) is again absolutely spot on here. There is some real nonsense on this site about DG - time to move on and upgrade, imho.
Thanks for the accolade, Plan(e)k

We don't need another striker. But if they have any youngish decent looking centre back, they may be worth a go. Quote black eagle. at 04 Aug 2015 1.03pm

this is a bad move letting a game changer like Dwight go out on loan. Assuming we keep Murray, with Bamford and Wickham would Gayle even get on the bench to be a game changer? Gayle has started bulking up but he needs to play regularly in order to develop in to the striker we need (if he can). Alternatively if Pards is going to tweek our tactics/formation into the type that would better suit a player like Gayle, it's better he's getting regularly game time the the interim. Finally if he's really no good for us after the end of this season we need to look to selling him and a year of regular first team football will see us get a better price. It's like the Murray loan, unpopular, but no one can say it wasn't necessary.

Hi. IMHO I would put Gayle out on loan with a view to selling at the end of the year...... We keep Murray as he would obviously help Bamford and Wickham to progress. Sorry Frazier, you need to go for us as well as yourself!!! We really are starting to look like a great squad..... Roll on Saturday and the rest of the season.

There goes your ego again, your stalker! I try to avoid your posts tbh, I find them full of self-promotion and condescending to anyone who doesn’t share your view. If you think it’s petty to lie about past events, that’s your choice, but if I see your bulls*** on here, I will retort, so maybe stick to facts, not fiction? I don’t really care whether you ignore my posts, hopefully you’ll not reply to this. To be honest my comment was aimed at oldfella, who offered someone out on another thread and he is a stalker of many but in particular glaziermart.

Just to add some context to my previous post, Gayle scores a goal an average of every 131 minutes as a sub. A couple of years ago (a year for which I happen to have stats to hand) Edin Dzeko was the leading impact sub, scoring a goal every 59 minutes played. Chicharito was next, scoring every 74 minutes. Steven Fletcher every 84 minutes. Darren Bent every 90 minutes. Gayle would not even be close to the top 10.
In the 2 seasons since we have signed him, he has played less minutes than most & still finished top scorer in all comps. He is still in my opinion the best finisher at the club.

Also Angus, sorry. Syd. Out of all the sub appearances he didn't score in, how many was he stuck out on the wing. Maybe you could clear up gayles goal to minutes ratio from playing on the wing & playing point.

We are on manager no 4 (or five of you count temps) and none of them has stuck with Dwight. I love him but he drives me mad some games, normally when he starts, he's too lightweight. Best finisher at the club, every one says that but at a cost. Change of club would suit him, temp hopefully.

Also Angus, sorry. Syd. Out of all the sub appearances he didn't score in, how many was he stuck out on the wing. Maybe you could clear up gayles goal to minutes ratio from playing on the wing & playing point. The point about playing on the wing is accepted, although already addressed. Of course, it's impossible to break down minutes on wing vs. minutes played through the centre (though I know the question was tongue in cheek.) However, I would say that a). in games he came on as a sub, usually when we were either behind or drawing and needed a goal he was less often (anecdotally) used in a wide role than he was in games that he started (when he was often a second choice fill-in for an injured player not in his preferred position) and b). if a succession of managers had thought he offered something in a central role, they presumably would have played him there. Whatever you (or I) may think, it's pretty clear that the experts don't think he offers enough playing point to actually put him there. It is beyond argument that Gayle has consistently been played out of position. We all know that. But we have to accept that that's because he hasn't been good enough (in the manager's view) to win the shirt "in position." I can see why, in light of that, both supporters and Gayle himself are frustrated but one way or the other the point remains that he hasn't been good enough to make it.

If he could actually lead the line or we played a system he could fit into he would be worth a fortune and get a lot more game time.
