Has anyone 9who knows what they are talking about) seen this guy play consistently ???

I have no idea whether this is a good thing or bad thing - simply haven't seen enough of him

His stats show he can certainly score goals and that he appears to be getting better over the last three seasons:

SASH, have a look on YouTube and see what you think.. personally, I think he looks pretty damn good.. can shoot and head a ball well, he knows where the goal is and seems very strong.. I'd be more than happy if we lured him to our club... C O Y P

That would be his highlights reel - no doubt I could get one of those for Andy Dorman if I looked hard enough (nahh ok maybe not but you get my point)

Anybody actually watched him play a few games ??

If true, this interview on HLTCO with a Sporting fan seems quite damning, at least with respects to becoming a Palace player and slotting straight in as our 15+ goalscorer. I'm going to quote the more worrying lines but the article is worth a proper read.

[Link]

"As he is not the best playmaker his success depends on whether the ball gets to him in the right areas often enough"

"I’m not convinced he is currently suited to the Premier League. He goes down easily, and dives a lot. He will need to change his mindset to thrive in England."

Of course the interviewee could just be pouring cold water on talks as he isn't keen to lose him (and as I bet we all do down the pub when ever an opposition fan talks about talking one of our players). But this does suggest he may not be the perfect fit that some think.

Yeah thanks Pedro but even 15 in 33 last season sounds pretty good to me and 9 in 13 so far this season is impressive in anyone's book. Hell, I'd even settle for the 10 in 30 he got two season ago, if others were chipping in. And if Pedro thinks that taking a dive doesn't happen in the PL, he doesn't know much about the English top flight. Saying that your best striker isn't good enough for another team, well he would say that, wouldn't he?

Another view by an Algerian journalist this time. This one almost completely different suggesting what he offers defensive, aerially, physically and in holding the ball up skill almost makes him sound Palace Perfect.

How times have changed in recent years and how it feels weird with the shoe being on the other foot.

for years & years weve watched from afar seeing mid-table PL clubs throw their magic beans at expensive players from inferior league in the hope they will turn out to be a star in the faster, more physical, more demanding PL. There are countless examples of strikers coming in from afar for somewhere in the region of £10+ only to be a dissapointment.

Now its palace looking at spending this type of money on this type of player it makes me feel unesasy. You can point out his internation record of a goal every other gaem, well take a look at who those goals were scored against.

99% of them against bumphuk nowhere teams.

Yes he has scored goals in portugal but again, against who?

you could point out we have already started spending big money on players like wickham/cabaye/dann(wages). but we already knew what those players can do, they were tried & tested in this league and to a certain extent were "no brainers" when it came to the deals we offered.

I admit ive only seen slimani play a few games, and he looks ok, but £15 ok? nah not really.

There must be a striker in england/spain/italy/germany who would cost similar to slimani but already have big league experience.

The thought of us taking a punt at that price, on that player makes me feel quite uneasy. I would rather we signed andy carroll from WHU.

where does a club like CP get players at this point, though? not going to take a good player from a top club. andw with the new tv money, the very small clubs don't even need to sell. who would we buy from this year? the only realistic english teams would be from the championship. and they're not tested either unless it's a relegated team.

so it's really charlie austin type, a castoff from a big club (chamakh), or a guy who couldn't do it at a similar club who we think could make good (wichkam). any way you look at it, there is a decent risk. the club will have some flops - it's just going to happen. hopefully more good than bad, though.

There doesn't seem to be any striker in England who is either good enough or suitably priced for us to buy so we have to look abroad and take a bit of a gamble. If they have scouted him and reports are good then fair enough, Souare has turned out all right!

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

I'm no expert but I'd expect our scouts are too concerned with the stats and are looking at the way a player plays and if they have transferable skills, using their previous experience.

I'm sure you could look at other African Premier League players stats and compare them to those. Are Bony, Gomis, Cisse scoring in every other games?

Likewise with comparing Portuguese league success. Any players currently playing in the top leagues that have recently played in Portugal?
