It should also be noted he's on around 20k per week. Are people really suggesting that's a good return on investment? He should be moved on to a half decent championship side ASAP for all concerned.
It would be extremely surprised based on half a season in the Championship however I don't have a clue. We don't even know how much he cost, let alone how much he earns.

Anybody doubting Gayle's ability needs their head examined.
He's a finisher - as the Villa goal proved - but he needs much more to his game to revel in his current surroundings and he just hasn't got it.

2. Look at Ince as he's done nothing, except for one good game, but can be a good player as he just needs to learn, just like Gayle. 3. For me I can see he has the ability to do well in the PL and just needs to get his strength. 4. I think some fans expect too much too soon. 5. Then maybe it's best to play him like a Zaha or Bolasie? Sidman: 1. Re: Sinclair it's quite possible he'd cost no more than the 6 million we reputedly paid for Gayle but that's beside the point. The issue with attracting players like Sinclair isn't the transfer fee. It's that even if the clubs approve the deal, established players often don't want to come to newly promoted clubs like Palace. That's the reason clubs like us often over-pay for the likes of Gayle; because they're the types who are willing to take a chance and come to us because no matter what, we're a step-up from Peterborough. If we go back down, they're no worse off. With that said, the above scenario should change this summer. We are far more established in the Premiership, have a top quality manager, great supporters, and visible team spirit. We're on the up. We won't attract World Class players away from the top six but this summer we should represent a viable alternative to Stoke, West Brom, Villa and many other mid-table clubs. Sinclair is exactly the sort of player we might get this July but would never have got last July. 2. Ince is a good comparison point to Gayle, I agree. Personally, I think Ince has considerably more potential than Gayle but that just boils down to opinion. If we're honest, at Premiership level the jury is still very much out for both of them. I think Ince is more football savvy, skillful, and intelligent than Gayle but I'll be the first to admit that's just my view. 3. I just don't see this (but I respect that you've reached a different conclusion). I don't see a Premiership player in waiting. Furthermore, although he is not strong, I don't think the lack of a stronger physique is Gayle's main problem. It's that he's just not a very good footballer for me. He doesn't shield the ball well (perhaps related to strength), he doesn't pass the ball to his teammates very often, and one great moment aside, he doesn't really threaten the opposition's goal. With that said, I accept the points about poor service, etc. 4. You may be right, but in the Premiership, an unforgiving place, you don't have the luxury of time. You have to buy the finished article or have a strong enough squad (which we don't) that you can afford to pay 6 million to develop a reserve. I think there is some justification for fans disappointment/impatience given that Gayle appears to have been bought because we did think he could make an immediate impact at top level. If that was the case, Holloway badly misjudged Gayle's potential, even if he does come good in future. 5. I see what you're saying but not for me. He has nowhere near the skill of either Bolasie or Zaha...he's more a head-down inside forward for me.

If you transported him 20 years back in time, when teams almost always played with a variation of a big man-little man fwd line, and 3-5-2 was in vogue with a playmaker in centre midfield threading balls fwd, he wd be a very effective player. Problem is, unless any developments have occurred in time-machine manufacture in the last 24 hours, that he is stuck in the modern era of one up front, pressing defenders and harrying the opposition when not in possession. It's been said many times he doesn't fit our system - and that really is staying the bleeding obvious - but tell me what premiership club wd make use of him effectively ? Sorry, but he's a championship level player through and through.

Not really sure you can judge someone on the basis of 10 minutes against a team that is arguably the best in the entire league, comprised of first choice international players.

Add the 6 mins against Utd, 9 against Arsenal, 22 against Tottenham that's 59 minutes since he played against WBA and scored. As Cloughie said it only takes a second to score a goal and Gayle has had 3540 of them. He clearly isn't up to it Plus, he's 23 so well old!

As was pointed out on here previously, the reason he has played so little is down to Pulis' assessment of him, which is drawn from years of experience and monitoring his training performances. People pointing to a lack of appearances in his defence, aren't seeing what is frankly the bleedin obvious. He isn't up to it in the managers eyes. No doubt for similar reasons than a variety of posters here have cited. Eg, not strong enough, lacking off the ball movement, awareness, work ethic and team play.

Basically, he is our fifth choice striker. That's all that needs to be said really.

If we were to play the 'big man, little man' ie Crouch and Defoe style, with Jerome/Chamakh and Gayle, I think we could have a highly effective partnership.

This thread is rather pointless. We have not seen gayle in months, and he was given what 15 minutes against arguably the best side in the league, how many touches did he actually have when he came on?? Tbh with gayle i think its a case of wrong place wrong time for him. It's unfortunate but unless he becomes a superstar in training over the summer or Pulis is going to adapt a complete new style i can't see him staying here for more than a year. Gayle can clearly finish (he scored 5 goals in 50 minutes in an u21 game recently / murray also played and scored zero). I honestly just think that he has a very low level of tactical awareness having jumped from non league to championship to premiership within less than a year and a half. Often early on in the season he looked a bit lost about where to make runs, where to be defensively etc. Thats going to take considerable time to improve at a club which atm sees an avg of 35% of the ball. I could easily see him going to the championship and scoring 20+ goals and by then he may be ready, but atm he clearly isn't.
