As a right back - no we do not need we have Ward, Kelly and Mariappa in that order. I can see the potential of playing micah as a CB - but has he history of playing in this position? - or can he be converted?...if so then perhaps worth a punt. His experience in serie A will be invaluable. A few years ago it was thought that he would emerge as a centre-half and he certainly played in this position under Eriksson. As well as central defence and right-back he has also played in midfield anmd at left-back so he is certainly versatile. He really has a good leap on him and is very good defensively in one-on-one situations but in the past there were question marks raised about his positional play and lapses of concentration and it was felt that it was his pace which got him out of trouble.

Positional knowledge and lapses in concentration come with time and experience. He could come in and learn off the more experienced players we have, I'm thinking Hangelaand could be influential here as he seems to be the opposite of Richards (His lack of pace is made up for with good positional scene). For someone who has been around for so ong its worth remembering he is only 26, a good 5 years of development in him yet.

Just dont think he's good enough. Concentration, positioning and anticipation are 3 key attributes for CBs which to an extent can't be taught. I seem to remember him being short in supply of all 3 but would use pace/ OTT last ditch tackles to make up for it. The dean moxey school of defending

As a former CB, you are either a natural CB or your not a CB, it is not something that can be coached or improve with experience, as a CB one essential asset is being able to read the game, and that is something that can't be coached into a player. Micah Richards can not read a game, when he played as a CB he was regularly caught out of position that is why he was moved back to FB.

When he played CB he was younger, less experienced and didn't have a regular partnership. I think we could position him next to Dann and they could develop a strong duo. At 26 there's still room for development - end of the day, he's got over 10 caps and almost 200 Man City appearances. He's good enough for Palace.

For clarity could you explain to what level you played as a "former centre back".

No I'm not saying that, although it is not as critical as a fullback, as it is in the heart of the defence where being pulled out of position can be costly. A fullback can redeem himself if he has the speed which Micah Richards has in abundance, another example of that is Nathanial Clyne he is often caught out of position but has the speed and guile to get back and cover, which he is very good at.

Agree - although I see what Sgt B is saying he was a younger, developing player who had a succession of partners. Definitely has the scope to play at CB for us and adds the pace and aggression we need in the middle of the back 4
