Football culture has developed through the generations from the days when the only way to see high quality football was to watch your local professional club. The sense of belonging and loyalty doesn’t translate well to people outside of that culture in this day and age. The club’s ‘Born in South London’ campaign was pretty good and aimed at inner London youth but to be honest, to most black kids, being an Arsenal fan will always be easier, cheaper, cooler and more enjoyable. How do you compete with that? go back to handing tickets out to the local schools, get incvolved with the local area more and genreally being a higher profile, more successful club. NOW is the time the club should be capitalising on all of this. these kids are tomorrows fans no matter what bloody colour they are Cheaper?! Have you seen their season ticket prices?

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

How many people have got into Palace without having friends or family who were already fans? Next to none I’d say. Following a team like Palace is only enjoyable because you feel part of something and most people get into it when they’re brought by someone. So trying to entice entire communities into coming doesn’t work. You can’t force it. …unless we have a ‘Bring an ethnic Palace to Palace’ scheme?!

Most of the local ethnics are not interested in following palace - Selhurst park has been here since the 20s but it's like we don't exist as far as they are concerned. Those that do enjoy football support Arsenal. I was going to suggest that maybe football is too expensive, then I remembered that a lot of the local youths walk around with £100 trainers, expensive mobile phones and drive expensice cars. I guess we are not fashionable enough for them. Hopefully things will change with future generations.
Give them time, they will come. And if they don't - sod them. Let them support Arsenal or Man United and not know the true passion of being part of community club. And that's what I love about palace. I feel like I know all the people that I stand around. I see all the same faces at the away games I go to. I feel like I belong. How many Arsenal customers can say that?
The idea of offering ticket discounts to black or asian people is so ill-conceived I cannot believe anyone in their right mind has suggested it.

If people wanna come they will come. The only group of people I would offer free/cheap tickets to are kids no matter what color, race, creed, or religion they are from. Edited by wainesworld (09 Apr 2014 5.48pm)

But why though? Are some put off by large groups of white people? Is it pub culture they do not like? Or is it the cost? If only they tried it we can all guarantee they will be hooked! Getting them hooked whilst young at school is the way forward.
I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that. |

You will not see any Africans at football matches because they like to buy thinks CHEAP. I live in Abbey wood and have done a lot of plumbing work for them and they don't like paying top dollar. I became a Palace fan not because of my mum or dad, my mum hates football my dad was a Gillingham fan I became a palace fan because I grew up in Thornton Heath, Green Lane

Majority of Palace fans support the club because their family or friends did, as people have pointed out. Some people will move into the area and grow to support the club. But those are people who for whatever reason feel to support their local club and so took an interest, then fell for the club as a result, i.e. a minority of the people who move into the area. The only way to attract more fans of a specific type is to attract more fans in general. It's not just blacks and Asians, most whites i know will only "support" the likes of arsenal or Man U as well. So you can't filter the fans you bring in, that would be crass and stupid. The club being bigger would bring in more fans, of all colours. That's all there is to it. Not convinced I share the dream of Palace being South London's answer to Chelsea or Spurs personally, think that would ruin the experience of being a Palace fan in some ways. Otoh it would be nice if Palace dominated south of the river in terms of support. Just be happy whatever happens I suppose
