August 2013: South London band The Eagles MK11, after years of gigging on the Championship circuit, finally release their first album.

It's a bit of a grower. Some tracks are stinkers (Fulham At Home, Holloway Tried His Best, How Do I pass The Ball Boss?) with a couple of gems (The Pulis Effect, John Terry's Head). Eventually reaches 14 in the charts.

Now comes that difficult second album (tentative title - Stuck In The Middle with Man U).

I think if we stay up this season, we'll be in the relegation battle next season. Stoke generally flirted around that zone, and a lot of the clubs who stay up the first year, struggle the second (Swansea, Reading, Birmingham, West Brom, Hull, Wolves etc etc).

It's a greasy pole from 11th down so anyone could go down each season until about late Feb/March when it narrows down to 6 or so.

Where we've nailed it, and had to because of 3 points in about 8 games at the start of the season, is doing things like making sure we nearly always get points at home vs the bottom half and do not lose at Sunderland, p1ssing off the population of Sunderland and the online Palace whingers. We have also gone for it in games just before we have to face title contenders close together or other tough games we expect to get very little from.

If TP can vary it a little bit next season we'll be less predictable than most teams in their second season. I think he will. This season's 35% possession was necessity. I also think we're a good striker and possibly a couple of players away from being a mid-table team being safe with ample time left of the season. Our form after IH and the fact we've achieved with no striker scoring more than a trickle is a clue. Keep TP = Prem survival.

Make no mistake about it, we'll be fighting relegation next season.

Sustainable growth means modest gains every year. Unsustainable growth (see LEEDS) means immediate success but then years if not decades of misery.

If we slowly and prudently improve the squad with players that fit our team then we will climb the table. I'd look at 2015/16 being a decent goal for a mid-table finish and maybe looking for a cup final too.

I know everyone wants things now or sooner, and the 'reach for the stars' mentality but you have to be careful. It is possible of course (see Southampton) but thats a rare set of circumstances and I'd even suggest they had to go into Div 3 to get there.

I'd rather take a season or 2 of struggling in the prem before climbing the table bit by bit, over aiming for Europe next year and then falling like a stone. The club will be in better shape and the future much brighter. After all I plan to be supporting them for at least the next 30 or 40 years...

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely
Mile Jedinak

Should we stay up, Next season i expect us to be similar to this season (post holloway) - we will still be 'new' to the league and there for, certain games will be exciting for us.

We will be looking at taking a big boy scalp, with one eye on the bottom three - we can also have good cup runs.

I honestly think any 'true' palace fan will appreciate mid table mediocrity for a few years - so long as the football in enjoyable.

The club will be secure, a sell out selhurst and watching top flight football.

We will be able to enjoy Cup runs that would no longer be a distraction.

Then, we will probably start to push for Europe and that will be our new aim!!

But, i guarantee there will be people that moan.

To be honest, if it meant mid-table mediocrity, I'd take scrappy, boring defensive games for a few more seasons at least. I'm 32 and have seen enough yoyo'ing, financial battles, key players sold off, and all that to last me a life time! All I want to see palace do before I die, is become premiership regulars, and win the FA cup... Its not too much to ask, is it?

Couldn't have put it better myself except the 32 bit (unfortunately)

been having little think ( dont worry i sat down)

looks like we we may beat the drop and have out first consecutive season in the premier league ever, and it feels good! and i honestly believe its our time to establish ourselves in the league.

it may seem strange but i think i would miss fighting for promotion or the playoffs in the championship, and although sometimes sickening, heart attack inducing, abut allways hugely exciting, the almost guarenteed relegtion battle.

if this was to be a new era in out clubs history would anyone else secretly miss our yoyo antics. i think i mite.

Interesting debate, a lot of if's to consider... Personally, I fully expect Palace to stay up from here with relative comfort and if Pulis stays I would expect a mid table finish next season. The man is a class act and knows what he is doing.

If this did happen I personally would find it a great shame and would probably stop going to Palace after 15 years. Mid table Premiership football is something I have feared for many a year and fear it could be the case with us soon. Who wants to be stuck in mid table each season with nothing to play for for the last 3 months of the season? (i.e Southampton and Newcastle this season). Only a season in the Europa League would change this for me, but I don't think it's realistic.

I prefer the old grounds with character, cheaper ticket prices and being able to buy a ticket for any game without worrying about having enough membership points. The atmosphere has changed this season for the worst, there is a new breed of Palace fan who moan when we're losing. Was much better last season when we roared the team to win from behind against Cardiff, Burnley, Charlton etc.

The quality of football will no doubt be better to watch, but what substitute is that for all the bad that comes with it? I guess that's a matter of opinion.

I think you have sort of answered your own question. Since January, probably only 2 teams have felt that they have nothing to play for out of 20. Even 2 weeks ago, there were probably only 4 teams who were in that position. If we say that the top 6 or 7 are out of our league, then we fight to come 8th, which is where Southampton are now. And, if I was a Southampton supporter I would be saying that they have won 'their' league. That should be our target next season.

But where's the excitement in pushing for 8? I'd rather be in a relegation battle. What has The Premier League become if teams celebrate winning the 'mini league' and finishing 8th?

realistic, I think. The days have gone where the Forests and Ipswich's can break into the top bracket but, for me, finishing 8th in the Premier League would be the equivalent of winning (and anything above 13th would be our 2nd best finish in 109 years!)
